In stores mid March.
retail street price: $399 (R9 TP will be $499)

The most advanced and finest performing driver in the history of golf club design per TaylorMade. The R9 will feature full adjustability in that it will combine 3 moveable weights with our newest technology-Flight Control Technology (FCT). FCT gives the golfer the ability to adjust the club head to affect face angle and loft. MWT and FCT give 75 yards of left to right adjustability, 3 degrees of launch angle adjustability, and up to 1800 rpm of spin adjustability. The club head can be rotated into one of eight positions, giving the ability to adjust from 2 degrees closed to 2 degrees open (actual measured face angle will be square to four open, though visually, 4 open looks 2 open to the golfer). This is done by a wrench and turning the club head onto the axis of the shaft. The three moveable weights are in similar positions to r7 Limited. The result to the golfer will be the ability to have an open club face while still promoting a draw, for example. It's really 24 drivers in one.

The club head has a large address, similar to the r7 SuperQuad, though we did not make this as large a clubhead as Burner, for example. This is, according to TaylorMade, the optimal size demanded by the most discerning players.
We are launching this on Tour at the end of January, though many of our Tour pros have been testing the club already. They have declared this the best driver ever produced.

The stock shaft on it will be Fujikura's brand new Tour platform, called "Motore" and it will be the only club in the market with Motore in the stock offering.
TP shafts will be offered at a $100 ($499 street retail) upgrade and will be assorted offerings from Fujikura, Mitsubishi, Matrix, and Aldila.
In addition, TaylorMade will also launch an R9 fairway, though the fairway will only have FCT, no MWT. It will also have the ability to use 8 positions and can affect up to 35 yards of left to right workability. This club will have the ability to go from 2 closed to 2 open. Retail price on this will be $229 and will have a traditional shape and have the stock Fujikura Motore shaft.

I amazed at Taylor Made's price points more than anything, $229 will be $79 in 4 months.

Hey, this is absolutely awesome.

Think I'll wait now so that the price of the '09 Burner TP will drop a bit.  This is absolutely wonderful news.

Oh, and I don't mind TM releasing product.  They release some fantastic products.  Just think of the great drivers they've had in past...

300 Series - 300 Tour, 320 & 360
500 Series - 580 Tour, 510TP
R5 Series - R5 Dual TP
R7 Series - R7 TP, R7 425TP, R7 460TP, R7 Shallow, R7 Superquad, '07 Burner TP, '08 Tour Burner TP, '09 Burner TP, '09 R7 Limited

And I'll thank TM for, what seems like, being the first OEM to have a high-end aftermarket shaft come in the stock offering, ala R510TP w/ the Speeder 757.  Before then, I can't really remember a high-end shaft being available as the stock option (but I could be wrong).

Sweetness...

Gosh, I'd be like Charles Barkley trying to hit the d**n golf ball.  Wondering if I had everything set up the best for my swing that day.  Weights, face angle, etc.......

Every TaylorMade driver hits the ball farther and straighter each year.  By now, we should all be hitting 500 yard drives with TaylorMade drivers!  cheesyf

They have outdone themselves, this 1 driver is and I quote "It's really 24 drivers in one."    And it is their best driver ever, what else would they say and how exactly do they decide to measure this?

Um...  I believe the 909 Series are probably considered their '09 offering.

It was in stores in the calendar year of 2008. But following your logic, the 907 series would then be considered their '07 offering. So a two-year product cycle.

Not mention a bigger sweet spot and a lower CG for a higher ball flight!  cheesyf

Whenever we get a shipment from taylormade I just cringe because I know it's going be a lot of stuff.

Announced by TaylorMade like “most advanced and most powerful of their drivers”, very awaited and revolutionary R9 will be launched in Orlando at the end of January and will arrive from here a few months in shop.

R9 will be completely adjustable, since it associates the already existing system of interchangeable weights MWT (3 on R9) with the FCT “Flight Technology Control” which wants to say Technologie of Control of vol.

This last innovation makes it possible to the player to adjust his driver on the level of the opening of the face and the loft.
The two combined systems thus make it possible to obtain, according to the adjustments:
- a side amplitude of 68 meters from left to right.
- a difference in the angle in active launching until 3°
- a difference in the rate in spin going up to 1800 T/M
That is to say 24 drivers into 1!

The head of the club, successful marriage of the tradition and modern, can be regulated on 8 different positions and can thus vary 2°ouverte until 2°fermée. This adjustment is done thanks to a key and while turning the head around the shaft.

The 3 interchangeable weights are placed at the same places as those of R7 Limited. The head is comparable in volume with that of R7 Superquad but remains less bulky than that of Burner, this corresponds to préférè volume of the large majority of the players.

The standard shaft will be new Fujikura Motore, in version Motore F1 for version TP. Nothing differentiates the standard head from head TP, version TP is locatable only by its shaft.

The R9 driver (Standard & TP)
Loft  Left-handed person  Volume Length club
8.5°           Not                  418cc    45 "
9.5°           Yes                  420cc    45 "
10.5°         Yes                  422cc    45 "

9 shafts proposed for the version R9 TP:
Fujikura Motore F1 65
Fujikura Motore F1 75
Fujikura Motore F1 85
Aldila Voodoo VS6
Aldila Voodoo NV6
Mitsubishi Fubuki 63
Mitsubishi Fubuki 73
