I just got my Callie - DOC NO REPLY IS NEEDED - but thanks for thinking of me.

I also just watched a Golf Channel infomercial on the Guerien Rife (whatever).

I had a Corza for a while - the Corza lost - badly a on course competition against my Red x.

Now, inu the basement at lengths of 3 ft 7 ft and 12 ft, I have been having a competition and trying to improve the overall stroke.

All that said, I have begun to see somie improvement in all 3 putters in this present competition.

Red X - custom weighted at about 370gms 34.5"
Studio Style Newport (original) 330gms 35"
Yes Callie 355gms 34"

I have a somewhat upright stance, so the longer putters work well for me, anything from around 34 to 35" is good.

Of late, the Callie seems to make the most putts - and real or imagined it seems to have a larger sweetspot - perhaps the C-grooves help keep it on line?

I do think there is really something to the grooves I can see less skid/hop on the carpet, I smooth it out to see the post putt marks.

The overall stroke is smoother and has less wobble - as a result I am hitting all 3 putters better.

So, while I know it comes down to looks and feel and personal preference, I am really leaning at the Yes and the Red X.

Anyone have opinions on this stuff, the grooves the 3 putters, my choices etc?

I use a yes Natalie 34" putter and it is very good.  I can honestly say that I can't remember the last time I missed a 3 footer.  It works best on shorter putts.  One thing to be wary of - the c grooves do seem to immediately grip the ball (I know it really doesn't grip it) and put an immediate roll on the ball which is all well and good if you put a good stroke on it.  However, most misses by amateurs is striking a putt with the face open a little and a quality normal putter (without grooves) will often times let the putter head close a tiny bit more after hitting the ball and cover some mistakes.  The grooved putter will not do that, when it touches the ball it starts it rolling regardless of whether the contact is solid, open or closed.   In other words, if you start it on the right line it's awesome but if you don't it's not going to be manipulated at the last minute to get back on line.   Overall it is not as forgiving on line as a lot of quality putters but once you get used to the way it moves a ball, it is way more forgiving than almost any putter I've ever tried on speed (due to the true roll effect).

Guerin Rife all the way baby !!! Those 2 bars may look crappy, but they have some nice stuff coming out in th enext couple months. My .02 is that I have tried a few diff Yes putters and while I definitely believe in the technology, you have to hi tthe sweet spot still to get the proper roll....b/c the c grooves are only in the center, same for a corza, but with a GR th eentire face is rolled groove so even if you're off-center you still get a true roll......like I said my .02 but I can very honestly say my 2nd putts are now tap ins and I make alot more 1 putts than I ever have...with any other putter !!!

I had a putt off on the local muni's green yesterday.  Around the green I went, three balls to 5 holes, made them all par 2's and played the best 2 of three to each hole.

The Competition:

Yes Callie 34" 355gms
Studio Style Newport 35" 330 gms
Red X 34.5" about 370 gms

Observations:

THE GROOVES WORK - that was very very evident the roll was smoother, and much more precise, it also transferred energy better, couple times, I thought I hit them too soft and still got that last several inches of roll that I would not have expected to get.

I could not feel the added 25gms in the callie vs. newport.

The newport was bouncing balls all over the place (that is the roll was not smooth).

The red x with added weight is still a great putter - it is LESS precise for ME on short putts.

The winner:
Callie - fewest 3 putts (two of the hole placements were very very long - longer than I'd expect in real golf).
red x - second place, short putts of about 4 ft to 2 ft, the ball seems to pop off the face - I guess too heavy?
newport (the first club used - but had most practice with it in the basement), just did not perform for me.  It felt great, and it looks great, it just did not perform great.

I think the callie will be my gamer next time out - gotta put it in real game scenario.

I think the c-grooves actually bring back off center hits (SLIGHTLY OFF CENTER) because of their c shape, could be me though, as I did not try to mis-hit any putts.

Need more time, but the newport is long for this world in my 'collection.'
