Author Topic: Graman Ultimate signature series "Limey" mini review  (Read 75372 times)

I ordered a Graman Ultimate signature series "Limey" UL540 "S" shaft for my G2.  Here is a mini review stress test.
Had it installed in the G2 yesterday at ProGolf by Kevin and stopped by today to hit it on the launch monitor and the Shaft got a stress test instead ( more later )
Specs: G2 head, sits dead square, head weight 204 grams ( lead tape added ), Graman Ultimate signature series "Limey" UL540 "S"
raw CPM was right at 250ish. Finished at 45" D1.5 with a cpm of 254.  I ignore cpm rating now since the EVO was a 266 and it does not feel like a X.
I always go back to ProGolf to let Kevin hit my clubs for a ball speed test.  He kills the ball with his 120+ SS and I know if he gets above 170MPH Ball Speed and close to 300 carry its a keeper Roll Eyes .  Kevin says that I came just in time and points me to one of our buddies who is there hitting his new 905T driver with a NV75X ( this guy is a freak of nature and might give Derek a run for swing speed shocking ) . We will call him FreakZilla with his 130+ MPH swing speed.  First thing he says is what the hell do you have there because of the shaft ( words can not describe how this shaft looks in person )( he knows I always have cool new stuff ). First thing he says is that is the coolest looking shafts he has ever seen, then we talk about how he is killing his new driver while he is staring at my G2.  I hand it to him and say blast away so we can test Kevin's epoxy.
His numbers with the 905 are right at 186 ball speed with just over 300 carry and are up on the monitor.
He asks what flex this one is since my Evo was too soft for him and he ballooned it.  I tell him its a normal S and he is waggling it getting ready for take off.  ( I know the story is long but it deserves the details )
Boom 189 and 305 carry hunter
After about 10 minutes we have 196 Ball Speed and a 323 carry with a perfect launch for him gavel2
I made Kevin hit it a few times even though he did not want too, I am assuming since the big Daddy Boss was in the back today zchange  Yawn he gets his normal 173 Ball speed with no warm up Cry
They are like aren't you going to hit it, right after watching these 2 monsters hit it sad boy
So we are talking about the shaft, its a S untipped with a cpm like a normal S flex but yet the shaft can handle these guys 120+ swing speed.  I am wondering if I need to reorder a R flex
Specs are Weight 65-69 grams Torque 2.5  Full Specs

I am taking it to Santee this weekend for a full field test on the course with RP, Brett, and Henry so it will get a good test with some some very different swings.  Full report Sunday.

That would be slightly better than your own driver.

the graman G-SERIES shafts rock..    great driver shafts and the heavy weight is a solid fwy shaft also..   i have hit all and what i see from all are low spin numbers..   we have a zelocity launch monitor to show the nubers but real time hititng ont he range equals out perfromance..   nice feeling shafts and the color is just god awefull***    but after a few swings you forget it and laugh when someone says - what the hell are you hititng...        played satruday morning--   early and we had aslight frost delay and fog!   the guys were like ken - take out that glow stik for a driver and wave it around so we don't get hit into**

I am really impressed with the 540, this shaft handles the big boy swing speed numbers and my lower one Cry with equal ease.
I really hit the driver will today with it, and did lose a ball off the tee with it shocking and ask the guys that play with me, that is something.
Brett hit it a few times and hit it really well.
My R5 with the Evo will be in BST this week.  The G2 and the Limey are in my Bag !

With  this test to put it in some perspective or give a frame of reference - for me, I was a NV stiff user and now use the stock Diamana that came with my r5 tp - can you offer anything on how this shaft plays compared to those?

Thanks

I was actually pleasantly surprised. Once you get past teh fact that it looks like a highlighter with a grio and head it actually feels pretty good. It felt whippy waggling it, but loads nicely and had a good kick. Killed it a few times and what do ya know, actually hit a draw with it!

Has more kick and control than a NV.  I only tried the Diamana ( the real one  prop ) on the range and a few holes on the course and the shaft felt really soft for a X but you could not over power it.
I need to use the UL540 more on the course and might have to tip it a tad but it has a nice "kick" to it and I dont get the high right miss that I get with the Evo.  Plus I dig the color big_giggle

on the course it gives me a sore head!   tickedoff

Nice review Xtreme. I ordered a UL 440 in the R flex from Ken at LowPro and it is now sitting beside my desk waiting for a head to go into. Last night my wife asked if she could carry it while trick or treating with the kids as it was brighter than the glow sticks the kids were carrying. It is electric. I want to get this into a head before the weekend as it is the club championship and I know whoever plays with me will be blinded.

One question, why would you tip it if you aren't getting a high right?  Do you want that high right shot in the bag?   rofley

I get the high right when I get stuck, its not the shaft.  I have to go after the R5 to get the results I get with a smooth swing with the G2/Limey.
If I really go after the G2 it just goes shocking
I wanted to take mine out for halloween as a light sabor, but my daughter would not let me tickedoff

Ok, XC, now that I've won a UL440 I need to ask how you swing: are you a hitter or swinger, slow or fast tempo, easy or violent transition, lotsa lag or not much.  I'm nearly positive I need an X with my very, very quick transition, but I might want to tip an S.  Also, the UL540 has lower torque and probably feels a tad stiffer than the 440.  Yeah, X, but if you also have a really quick transition...   guh

PingNut is getting one installed if he can find a dog sitter Tongue so he will let you know in a few days.
Email Stacy at info@gramanshafts.com
I am sure she or Ray can help you with the fitting.

I can swing it or hit it, one thing I found impressive with the UL540 is that it can handle a higher swing speed due to the shafts low Torque.
This thing is the Poor mans Diamana, feels softer than it plays but kicks like a mule.

Ok, just dropped it off to get glued up. Should have it by 10am tomorrow.  There is a downside to having a Limey I have learned.

The clubmaker asked for a $10 surcharge for burning his retinas.

Nightmare with the Limey.  I gave the clubmaker the Limey thinking he knew the spine mark should be lined up. He didn't.

I also gave him a Bangomatic head which has a 2.5 inch hosel depth. If someone handed you one of these and a regular shaft you would think they would know enough to do a partial insertion to get it to flex properly. Not my day. He inserted it all the way after doing 2.5 inches of tip prep and glued it up. It freq'd at 263 when done. An X-Stiff. Ugh. Tried hititng it and while it felt good my pathetic swingspeed couldn't get it to kick and the trajectory was too low. Asked him to pull it and do what he can to soften it up as much as possible without showing the tip prep above the ferrule. Might be just trashed and I have to buy another shaft.

I consider this my fault. I should have been very specific about what I wanted since this is the first job by this guy but now it is my last.

Sigh.

Brutal, but it sounds like a good fit for me!  Someone is going to want it - maybe you could swap with someone whose shaft is too soft uncut, they can install yours in a standard bore and take off an inch or so from the tip.  Seems like quite a few have picked these up.  Hey, even XC said he thought he might want to tip his a bit.  (Sure, I might be dreaming, but you never know.)

I wonder how it would work in a Rescue Mid TP   whist

Or in a 200 Steel 3-wood...  which might make that club useable again...  since I can't hit the bloody 757 that's in there now..
