things change...

I find that when shanks start to creep into my game (mostly wedges), it's because I'm standing too close to the ball and coming down very steep.  I just step back a hair from the ball, address it on the toe and swing slower and a little flatter.  After I get a feel for good contact again, I can move back to a more normal address position.

I hit maybe 2-3 shanks a year and every time it's with either a short iron or wedge.  My cure, same as yours, when I remember it, is to address the ball slightly more towards the toe and swing considerably less from the inside. In fact I want to be able to "see" that clubhead in my peripheral vision.

i get them randomly every year, seems to happen right after a few good ballstiking rounds then they appear out of nowhere.  They stay for a few days/weeks...then they are gone.  I dont even get pissed....because i know im about 1 inch from starting to stripe it.

at least that's the way i try to look at it.

Golf is deceptively simple yet endlessly complicated.  It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect.  It is at the same time both rewarding and maddening--it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented Adams 9016D with PM702, Wishon 949 speeder 952 X, adams idea pro 18 RADIX 90X, adams 20 proGold/X-con, Muiria Combo cavity blade set with Nippon super peening blues X  , leading edge grind Scratch 53 Nippon Proto Wedge shaft, leading edge grind Scratch  58 Nippon Proto Wedge Shaft, TP mills black carbon softtail short-neck

I shank 2 -3 times a round lately.  Most have been caused by looking up early to see the result.  (If you want to see a bad shot look up quick)
If I don 't shank I generally have a reasonable round.  Generally short irons or pitches.

I do not know the cause but two things tend to stand out.
1.   I hit the ball well when it is below my feet. (I have to stand closer to the ball and swing more upright.)
2.   The other bad shot is a pull hook and I often shank trying to prevent the pull hook.

Also as I start to play better the shanks tend to come in.  I just keep working on quick fixes and use different swings to try and cure the problem.  (Minday Blake swing or Natural golf swing but they can bring in other inconsistencies)

The hardest shot in golf is the one after a shank.
