While on a 3-day golf vacation with my father, I met with the head teaching pro at the course we were playing for a lesson.  A little background... I have been out of golf for 2 seasons due to appendicitis during the 2008 season and our new baby in the 2009 season.  And, with baby #2 on the way in October, I don't think my trip is probably it for recreational golf in 2010.  Though, I do need to play golf about once a month for business.

The short story is (I know, you're thinking, "this is short?") that I was hitting my irons terribly.  I bought the Adams A4 (DGSL Stiff) off the rack set before my golf layoff.  The results with them have been mixed at best.  I hit them sky high an inconsistently.  I estimate I have lost about a club with each iron.  Mind you, my irons were always the best part of my game.  I really wasn't sure if it was the clubs or my lack of practice and rusty swing.

The pro worked with me, and though I really did need a swing tune up, questioned the fitting of my clubs.  He had me hit his clubs and I was definitely hitting them lower and longer.  He also pointed out that the Adams standard set is 1" longer that "standard" (I am 5'-8") and too long for me.

So, any recommendations on a new set of irons, with matching 3 and 4 hybrids, OEM or Component, that have forgiveness and still hit the ball low?  The pro recommended going back to DG S300 since I have an aggressive move at the ball.  He also thought the low CG of the A4s was too high hitting for me.  I am meeting with my local head teaching pro for a fitting on Saturday, but I'd like to get my fellow GD members opinions.

Cheers,

David

I saw my local director of golf for an iron fitting.  He wants to put me into a game improvement head for some help and DGS300 shafts to keep the ball flight down.  They also think the added total weight will slow my swing down to help with better contact.  But, most of my problems are with my swing.  I don't have time to practice, so he said I need to ditch the forged irons for something more forgiving.  He was selling me on the Callaway X (20,22,24) irons, but I can't justify the expenditure.  I will only be playing business golf with clients once a month or so.  I got my fitting measurements from him (1/2" under standard, 2* flat, stiff flex) and ordered a set from Hireko this weekend.

I got the 5-PW, with DGS300, 1/2 short, 2* flat, standard grip.  I am keeping the Adams hybrids for now, or until I sell the whole Adams set.

The 6 irons cost $223 with shipping after coupon (hiremail) for first order.

Fingers crossed that they help out a little.

You posts went from asking for advice to making a decision without anyone replying.

What you are looking for? Are you looking for us to justify what you did?

I assume your question is out of general interest.   I don't require justification.   I have been on this forum for years.  I posted a question and waited 7 days for a response.  No one responded so I figured no one cared.  Which is ok, I guess.  I let folks know what I decided in case someone else has a similar question.  Frankly, I will probably not post any more questions.  People have more important things to do than reply.

Cheers
