Finally got up the courage to make it to the course today and only saw one other group out there. It was a sunny day about 54* with a 10-15 mph wind. Course is looking great and open about a month earlier than it ever has. Greens were just sanded and fertilized which killed me. I could never get it to the hole or bring myself to hit it hard enough on a downhill putt, knowing it would stop in the middle of the slope.

Swing is not what it used to be and longest drive of the day was about 280'ish with a tail wind. Hit some great shots, just couldn't get it done with the flatstick. Best shot was to about 15 feet on a par 3 playing 243 into the wind. I hit a good 5 wood and rolled it up within range where I would scramble for a two putt.

Managed to only miss one fairway and only two greens for the 9 holes today. Decided for the first round of the year I would try and go play the way back tips. Sure made for a much longer day, but found the course to be much more manageable with some proper game management. Everything in the bag seemed to be working great and hoping my game improves seriously over the next week before I embarrass myself at the Pismo Beach outing. The two greens I missed I was able to get up and down for par on, but had a pair of three putts in route to a disappointing 38 for the day.

Did you cream inside your jeans after your first tee shot.  Played 9 last week.  Man, it was great!

I will be playing my second round since July on Friday.  I played new years eve and it was ugly.  Hopefully this will be better.

If you would have driven your arse over to the valley you could have been playing all winter long prop....it's been great!  We have played every weekend since the beginning of December (some better than others of course, but dry for the most part).

Played nine today in the cold and rain (Sam W. would have made a mess in his pants). The greens were heavily top-dressed and there were still patches of snow along the fairway. Played reasonably well, and more importantly, the season is on.

Played Thursday afternoon, we are having a run of really nice warm weather after all the snow. My last round had been 11/29/09 and one time at the driving range about 2 weeks ago. The grass is still dormant, so greens were like putting on carpet (left everything way short). Not bad considering the layoff, short game was crap (lose the wedges the most over the winter). Sunny and 65 degrees, beer on the porch afterwards...mmmm.

I played a quick 9 today.  No warm up.  The first two holes were boring.  Tee to fairway to green and two putts.  Then it started becoming more interesting.   Cry  Four three putts in the next seven holes; one from four feet (bogey) and one from six feet (double).  Some great ball striking completely decimated by some horrendous short game.

First 18 of the year today!  yahoo

rlheiman and I hit one of the local munis today (Goodrich for the locals) and it played pretty nice. Greens are great there!   shocking Not soggy at all. Quite dry, surprisingly. Had a great round. 36-39=75. Had an eagle on a par 4 and chipped in for birdie on another hole. Had a double bogey sprinkled in there. (Eagle erased it the next hole; nice!)  big_giggle New driver, new irons, new wedges, new ball. (New glove, new shirt?)  laugh I guess they worked pretty well. Played the screaming yellow Srixon Z-star Tours today. That was fun.

I also finally got out to play for the first time since January.  I hit some really good shots, but also hit some that weren't so good. The putting and chipping sucked.  I only got up and down a few times.  I was stellar in missing the green from 105 yards.  I am looking to hit more balls today, as I am traveling and don't have anything to do after work is done.  I gotta practice and see if I can actually learn how to putt and chip.  I gotta practice so I don't look like a dork in front of some members of the site in a few weeks.

Had my first round since Thanksgiving weekend this past Saturday in my monthly men's association tournament.  Nothing but thins and snap hooks.  Once I managed to make it near the green though, all was good.  Shot a cool 105, but with only 28 putts.  Goes to show you how good my ballstriking was...

Regardless, the weather was beautiful, and it was great to see some friends I hadn't seen in a while.  And I got to play with my dad, who I finally convinced to join the assocation this year.  Of course, he stunk it up too.  Our best ball score was 96.

PS - I went to the range yesterday and was able to hit long-ish, straight shots.  Even a little fade.  Of course, it was a day late and a dollar short, but at least it reminded me that I can play this game a (very) little.

Got my first round of the year in today.  ~60 with no clouds and barely a breeze.  Absolutely perfect.

Ballstriking was ok for the most part, a few errant shots here and there, mainly with the driver.  Still managed to shoot an 80 with a couple mulligans.  Without the mulligans it probably would have been an 85.

I gotta say, my short game was ON today.  I had a handful of sub 100 yard wedges that stopped within 3 feet of the hole for a couple easy birdies and pars.  Really made me feel good for the first round of the year.

That will only be if I can figure out how to hit this driver.  I think the 60 gram shaft is a bit too light for me, and I need to get something in the 80 gram area.  That is what I was hitting in my 9015D.  I also need to seriously work on my putting and chipping.  I hit the edges of the cup, but can't get anything to drop. That is what is so funny about this game.  One day you can make everything, and the next you can even get one to fall.
