Curious about your thinking on playing in the wind. Yesterday,I played in what I call a 2 club wind. I was confused with downwind vs into the wind results.Hitting into the wind I was finding 2 clubs more was the ticket, but hitting wedges downwind I wasn't finding any advantages.I would choose 1 club less then normal and still coming up short. Was frustrating hitting with the wind and not having the wind carry it any extra. Or maybe I just plain suck

I find that playing the ball back a bit in the stance helps with windy day rounds. It does keep the trajectory a bit lower and do not have to club down much, if at all. Like you, I've never found that 'helping' wind, probably because of the lower trajectory I play. Even hitting driver into the wind, there is not a lot lost. FWIW, I do carry 2 drivers on those days, 1 lower lofted than the other and will switch depending on wind direction off the tee. Seems like around here(IL), the summers get more windy every year.

When you're hitting one club less and you keep coming up short, try hitting just a half club less or taking a few yards off your stock yardage.

I find that short irons and wedges actually can get knocked down by a tail wind. It seems like they aren't able to reach their normal apex because of less ball speed (I assume) and because wedges and short irons are all carry they aren't able to travel as far.

I wonder if that has to do with the airspeed around the ball and the loss of lift. Similar to if you are in airplane with a 50 knot tailwind your ground speed may by 450 knots but the airspeed is 400 and that is what generates the lift required. A heavy tailwind could effectively reduce the spin's ability to create lift/reduce drag on the golf ball. On a wedge where spin is a significant factor it might be reducing lift, while on a driver it has less of an effect. I occasionally hit knock down shots into a stiff head wind but more often I just club up and try to swing smooth. The stupid, old cliche about when it's breezy does seem to work.

In a 2 club wind. Use 2 clubs more into the wind, but down wind it might only be 1/2 club less. As some have said the tail wind doesn't always help if too strong.
Play a Callaway ball with HEX dimples, best wind ball made.

Smooth and easy, is my windy day thought. I play a high spin ball and in windy conditions I don't change my club, I just swing a little easier to keep the spin down. If you're on the tee with the driver into a headwind that's all you can do. A tail wind will either push the ball down or carry it too far. So I use the same club I would normally and swing a little easier. I already have a good idea of the distance I'd get with that club so I don't want to start second guessing my club choice and that riding the wind will help me. It's is too chancy. You give up control and luck will become the deciding factor in the shot.

I play it a little back from where I normally do, use plenty of club and remind myself to swing easy.

I generally use a shorter backswing on a windy day, and particularly into the wind. On a recent windy day in Florida, I was using three more clubs going into the wind, with a shorter backswing. Hit a few pretty good "punch" shots that day. The wind provides all the stopping power that I need.

Being from the coast of Scotland I need tips on how to play on a sunny calm day just in case we ever have one - I have heard about them and seen these on tv but never witnessed one for real

I second the motion. The Callaway Tour IX and new I(z) are the cats meow, especially in the wind.

You're asking for an awful lot there - man it's tough to give advice for those conditions. (That's like, how do you play this game? The ball is just sitting there, on a tee for heaven's sake. Hardest conditions in sport.)
