Looking for a driver shaft for a 909D2 8.5* head. Currently has the Voodoo for titleist stiff shaft, standard. My swing is rusty due to extreme winter in Ohio. I went to Florida to play and found that i was very inconsistent with it. Hitting High, high draws, low hooks & blocks. My friend had a 9.5* TP Burner driver with a 85 gram NV shaft stiff, hit it once with a HIGH HOOK. When selecting the driver at the local store there were only 2 options and the voodoo seemed the better of the 2 with good LM numbers. However went to different store and they had the NEW mizuno shaft fitter for the irons. Club tec had me swing this 3 times, entered the data and the computer gave 3 options, A) KBS tour X-stiff soft stepped 1 time, B) Project X 6.0 or C) Dynamic golf X-100 soft stepped once. My average 6 iron speed was 89 mph with average tempo. What shaft & length would you recommend for my 8.5* driver & fairway woods? Would a soft X flex help with the hook, or inconsistency? THANKS!!!

Get rid of the 8.5* and get a 9.5* head, and put in a Whiteboard 63-X, or maybe a 73-S tipped.

Get your swing back first then just schedule a fitting a with a good and trusted fitter....then make a move.

Hi,

Looking for a shaft for my Mizuno MX 560 9* head.  My Launch Monitor specs are :
SS: 107
Ball Velocity: 152.4
Launch Angle: 15.5
Ball Spin: 3215
Carry: 264.4
Total yds: 287.5

I believe I fall into an Oban Devotion 6 X Flex...

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Whatever shaft gave you those numbers seems to be fine.

Unless the conditions are very firm, you would be very fortunate to get 23 yards of runout with that launch and spin.  Probably unrealistic in most conditions.  I'd like to see you get your spin down a bit, even if it means dropping your launch angle to 13*.  You'll still get plenty of carry.  More importantly, it will give you more consistent runout and total distance and will also produce a much more penetrating ball flight into the wind.

I'd first measure the actual loft on that '9' stamped head.

Thanks for the response CWebb.
I live in Oklahoma, very dry summers, so the fairways are almost always firm.  But I agree, I do not get 23 yds of roll...
I too would like to see my launch angle + spin decrease a bit, thus the desire for a different shaft - namely an Oban Devotion 6.  According to their website they are made for quick/hard loading swings.  I am an ex hockey player / quick tempo / load the shaft pretty hard.

BTW BL8D, the LM numbers were taken with a HoF Patriot shaft in a stiff flex - tipped 1/2 inch.

thx TK3

I think your numbers are nothing to sneeze at, they are very decent with that shaft. I also think that Cwebb is steering you in the right direction by asking you to check the actual loft on the Mizuno. If the Hof Patriot is giving you the control you want aside from the launch angle, which is more of a loft issue anyway, I'd stay with the shaft and look into a lower lofted face.
