Will a .355 taper tipped iron shaft still fit if it's been tipped 1/4 inch?

It depends on how sloppy the fit is in the hosel, and how sloppy the tolerances of the shaft...

If the shaft and hosel are both built exactly to spec, then trimming the shaft will simply cause it to not go to the bottom of the hosel and more. The tapered portion in the bottom 5/8" of the hosel should match the shaft taper perfectly - in the perfect world - and the fact that you removed some of the tip does not impact anything there.

In reality, there will be slop in both shaft and hosel - and this slop will be different from one shaft to another and from one hosel to another.

You may or may not be able to seat the shaft all the way to the bottom of the hosel after trimming 1/4 of an inch.

Now the harder question.

What do you think to accomplish by tip trimming 1/4 of an inch?
