I was hoping someone here had some knowledge on this diet plan of packaged meals that you essentially add water to. Kinda expensive, but seems to everyone I have talked to, to be the real deal. It is a lot of soy based meals and the biggest thing that worries me is the calorie intake. Supposedly the intake is in the 800-1,000 range per day and I question if that is enough to function on for someone that stays active. I would imagine that would set the body up to crash and burn pretty hard, but can see where that can help burn off weight.

Any thoughts?

You'll survive on those calories just fine, once you retrain your body.  I read an article that said the perfect caloric intake for most people is 1200/day.   So a little less than that and you should lose weight.

I did the Jenny Craig and 1500 - 1700 calories is what they recommended for a mid-active male.  I went in support of my wife who was trying to shed the post baby weight and I ended up losing 25 pounds in about 4 months.
1000 calories seems to be really light........really light   shocking

It's not that hard. If you limit your intake and increase the burned calories, you will lose weight. Very simple.

I've never inderstood why someone would need a program to get simple math. It has nothing to do with the food you eat or how much. If you choose to intake 2800 calories a day, be prepared to bust your ass to burn them off. If you choose to intake 1200 calories a day, you have alot less work to do.

To each their own, however. Just remember that both scenarios require a "choice" to be made. No one to blame but yourself if you choose to intake more calories and not work to burn them off.

I agree, but I think a lot of people benefit from the regimented nature of a program like that.  The portion control of pre-packaged frood is also key.  Left on their own, many people will consume hundreds or thousands of calories without even realizing it, simply because there's a lot of food on their plate.

I am constantly amazed at the number of people who have NO IDEA what a calorie is...  what a carb. is...  what protein is.... what fat is....  etc.....   

These programs are good for people who don't have a basic understanding of nutrition.  They have no clue how to do it on their own, but if someone tells them exactly what to eat & how to work out they can stick to the program & do OK.

Fair enough, but if presented in it's simplist form, it's extremely easy to understand.

You don't have to use terms like "empty calories" or "Carbs" or "Mono vs Polysaturated fats". That's all BS.

You can eat whatever you want in moderation. If you can do fundamental math, you can lose weight. The biggest part is the concentration and the choice to be healthy. The rest is pretty damn simple.

220 calories per 48g serving. How many grams did you eat?

serving size x 220 calories = intake for half a bag of Rolos.

How many calories did you burn afterwards?

calories burned surfing porn and GD = ~14 calories*

Hours spent surfing porn and GD = 16

14 x 16 = 224 calories burned

You need to burn more calories or you will gain weight.

I have no willpower when I go shopping for groceries or discipline to stay away from certain isles.

Unless you are entering the Mr. Punyverse or Mr. Owimpia contests, 800-1100 calories a day is crazy.

Consult a personal trainer to clean up your diet and go from there.

one ounce is 28.35 grams so roughly 1.7 oz.
I have a degree in nutrition and am a certified executive chef  working as a corporate chef for a candy company.  I know proper nutrition but do not choose to follow it I am doing slim 4 life and have lost 40# in the last 3 months.  I could do it on my own but choose to eat what I want as most people do.  For 15 years I have done research and development in the candy field so I have to taste candy from production and what I make. 

The medifast program is good and it makes you accountable to someone besides your self.

My fittest friend eats like shit, but works out like a fiend.  His motto?  Build a bigger engine.  It will burn more fuel.  He has 4% body fat and looks like a stocky Camilo.

I remember when I worked out a ton, I thought raw eggs and tuna blended together tasted horrible. Then I had medifast eggs and I wish I had raw eggs and tuna again.  I got the box in and looking at it thought there must be a couple more shipments. I soon realized what looks like a weeks amount of food is supposed to last all month.  Cry

Without knowing your base metabolic rate (the number of calories your body needs to simply maintain your current weight) you are guessing and run the risk of doing more harm than good in the long run. Your body needs nourishment, if it doesnt get what it needs it slows things down to try and compensate. You need to find your BMR and then adjust your diet so you intake about 250-500 calories less per day than you need. Anything more and your body begins to compensate in bad way. Doing it right, coupled with exercise you will lose 1-2 pounds per week. Anything more and again you will suffer in the long run. Do it right, and learn to maintain healthy eating habits, it is the only way to lose weight and truly keep it off.

Just checked a calculator for it online and according to it, I am 2,466 which is how many calories I would burn if I stayed in bed all day. WOW !!
