From ScottyCameron.com

SOLE DRAFT ANGLE

Negative bounce on the sole that prevents the putter from sitting or looking closed. Allows the putter to sit open but never closed. Most players on tour don’t mind a putter that looks open but they never want to see a putter that is closed.

Okay, if you are talking bounce affecting the face angle, I agree with that....but I also assure you that the angle when allowed to lie naturally, would never ever be as much as displayed in that picture.

And for those that haven't read it elsewhere- the Method necks are cast and spin welded on.

Not a big fan of that either....maybe these aren't so great after all?

At $299 per, I'm guessing only the diehards will jump at that. Considering what can be had at that pricepoint, and it doesn't have a swoosh on it...

Come on Nike, gives a nice milled putter like the boys on tour are using. I can see why Tig hasn't switched if a cast spin weld neck is the best they got.

Well, the guys on Tour (not Tiger) are using the 100% milled protos. Too bad they cut corners and stunk it up passing it on to the consumer.

That said, I wouldn't play one if it were free.

How does a cast neck hurt this putter?

Don't you putt with the putter above the ground, so even if it rocks closed on the ground, it isn't closed in the air when you are putting. right?

If that were the case - why then do we talk about face angle on drivers? You can hover them and manipulate them square also.

Personally, I like to place the putter down with my right hand and line it up to the line on my ball. If it then rocks closed and kisses my balls - well Houston - we may just have a problem.

Thoughts?

i wont use a putter that rocks closed.  call it personal preference.  if i set down the putter and it rocks closed it goes back in the rack.  when i set my putter down at address i want it to set up neutral.  i want to be confident in it's setup so i can be confident in my stroke.  a putter that rocks closed gives me the thought of missing left and then i either miss left or push it right.  i can't think of any advantage to a putter that is poorly designed and rocks closed when set down at address.

I have tried the 003 model, a friend of mine had it. I thought it had a nice feel and sat fine to me. I did think the headweight was light and found it odd that all lengths use the same headweight. Got the ball rolling well and thought it was pretty good. The previous putter my friend had was a Black Series and we both liked the Method better.

The face angle of this putter is square, it rocks closed on the ground.  Drivers have closed face angles in relation to the shaft, not in relation to how they sit on the ground.

You are right though, if you set it on the ground and it rocks forward touching the ball that would be a problem.

$249. Grin

But when I go to work tomorrow I'll try the 003 we have and report back on the closed/not closed debate.  Maybe I'll even take a picture.

go pick up an odyssey white hot xg #7.  slammed shut.  the white hot xg9 is closed but not as bad as the 7.  the odyssey white hot tour #7 is closed.  they are out there.  if you want to see one that rocks closed try a never compromise #4.

How have you not seen a putter that sits closed have you been hiding under a rock for the last 5 years? Brian listed a couple that do, go to your local retail store and pick a couple up and you will see for yourself that when you set them on the ground the shut closed.  russian

None of the 70-some odd assembled putters in my two shops set closed...and I'm relatively certain that the dozens of unassembled heads do not set closed either.....but I guess you know more than I do.

Do you carry any of the putters that were mentioned as the models that sit closed or do you carry other brands?

Like I said go to a local retail store and pick up a couple that were mentioned, but apparently you know everything and no putter sits closed  Roll Eyes

The putter posted in the first post definitely rocks closed if you let it just sit there. The SC Del Mar does the same thing for me, but both of them are also too upright for me as is. Certainly if you hold the putter it does set square. I putted with the 001, and it isn't the best feeling putter, but it does roll the ball very well for me. I may pick one up at some point for grins to try on the course, and to try with a better ball than the rocks on the practice green at Golfsmith.
