DAMASCUS ROCKS !!

« on: January 25, 2010, 01:16:36 AM »

This project involved several twists of events...

First LaMont tricked out that other Rife Barbados, then I stole this one off the Bay $25ish, then it showed up as a "Belly", oh great. Good thing I like heavier putter heads. So, I come home for a week off the road and start opening my purchases while I was out and lining them up against the wall.

I had been trying to get "The Bear" to make me a heavier putter head with an "on-set" vs "off-set" neck for about two months. Oh yeah, since I chopped an interesting neck off a putter to give him (not noticing that it was a lefty with full shaft off-set). When I tryed lining it up on a head, it was on-set.

Anyway, he said "not on one of my putters", same thing he told me about colored putters. So I convinced him to try it on this sweet *** heavy head.

I forgot to mention, while these putters are lined against the wall, and Pop has his outrageous putting/chipping practice area in the back yard, somehow or other Pop brings up that someone he used to know putted a long putter "side-saddle". Nothing to do now but rig up flood lights and learn a new way to putt. In that one week off the road, we played 6 rounds and I have never sunk so many long putts in my life.

So, all comes together and LaMont has made my perfect Rife Barbados. It's probably cheating for me to be able to have ponderings and have such great friends as Charlie, Gene, Tad, and my younger LaMont to make my ponderings become real, but.....

I'm dying to roll it...

That looks good! --

Knock the sharp corners off that neck all the way around and it will fit the rounded lines of the Rife even better.

Thanks for the positive input and please feel free if it looks awkward to you... It just made sense when I thought about it a bit, I think we get stuck in a rut as to what "works". I'm having it shafted at 34" to send around to anyone who wants to try it, first to Banistr. I don't do this for income just to give my mind something constructive to ponder on so the postage is on you. When I get her back, she'll be belly shafted for my side saddle experiment.

Once again, thanks,

Great feedback.
I agree that the neck needs some attention, as far as edges and such.  You aren't able to see it, but the neck is actually glued to a metal plug that will be welded in the original shaft port, unless my welder wants to make a run at doing it, as is.
I'll be working that neck over and getting a much smoother look, before any welding takes place.  It is amazing just how "soft" this neck can be made to look, with a decent amount of hand work.
Thanks for the comments.  Morgan really had to lean on me to get this project in the works.  Not every idea either of us has is a winner, but some are better..........or more visually appealing than other,  winkey.

I wonder if the reverse plumber would be helpful for those with the yips who decelerate on the way into the ball.  Would having the hands behind the face help?

Tad Moore and I were talking about this very thing yesterday. He laughed that it probably only works until you get used to it then you start decellerating sooner. cheesyf

My initial reasoning was to achieve an unobstructed view of the entire face at address.

A couple update pics. It is really natural looking in person, not as clumsy as I feared. The polymer color is a reddish chocolate hue and the paint fill turned out way cool. Haven't gotten home to roll it yet and already replaced it in rotation with a new MannKrafted mallet I named Wahweap after the marina at Page, AZ.

Thanks

Morgan / LaMont - any thoughts about paintfilling the original three white lines that were there before the refinish ?

Also - any views of the "after" of the face (1st) and back (3rd) pic that you posted for the "before" pics ?

Not with the paintfill but that is a badge in the back cavity and all of that and the sight lines were done in light tan.

Thanks, Morgan
