I have a Titleist PT 13* that seems to keep coming back, I've tried lots of different 3 woods, but I can't keep the PT out of there.  I'll prolly go back to it soon, the 980F Strong 15 is hurting me with the draw bias and too high of a launch angle.

I love the Wilson Staff blades.  I own several sets from 1960 through the early 90's.  My favorite blades of all time are the Wilson Staff FG-51 model.  Clean lines, thin top line, straight leading edge.  I just purchased a set of Wilson Staff Fi5 forged progressive irons but still prefer the FG-51's.  Forged blade irons as you all know, make you strike the ball better because of the smaller head and sweet spot.  You know when you don't strike the ball well.  And you KNOW when you DO strike the ball well because it's like hitting a cotton ball.  For my money, I'll always play Wilson Staff forged blades.

I currently play a set of 1971 Wilson Dyna-Power irons (2-PW) and a 1963 Wilson SW.  Check out my avatar.  I also have a set of 1965 Wilson Dyna-Power irons as well.  I used to play a set of Cleveland TA 3 irons, but the vintage Wilsons are better than the 10 year old Clevelands, hands down!  It is so much fun to beat my buddies with their high price equipment (I paid $8.13 for the 71 set and $19.99 for the 65 set).

I have 88 Apex redlines that find their way onto the course every now and then. They really feel sweet and I don't feel that I give up a lot of forgiveness vs today's clubs. I always wonder why I give in to the cavity back is better paradigm & don't keep them in the bag

I came across this thread while looking for info on a set of Golden Ram Axial Tour Grind irons I recently picked up.  Since there were a few people who played Ram TGs I was wondering if they knew 1.) when the Axials were made and 2.) how do they compare to the other models?  They have to be after 1982 because they are labeled "Frequency Matched" and I think that is when Ram came out with that.  I only had a chance for a brief evaluation at the range, and that was in 30 degree weather, so I haven't gotten a good feel for them yet.

I have only switched back to blades in the past month or so.  I picked up a set of old Wilson K-28s almost by accident, and I thought I would use them to tighten up my mechanics.  Needless to say I fell in love with the butter hits, now don't know if I can go back to my Adams super game improvements.  I've also gotten addicted to buying blades.  In addition to the K-28s I also bought a set of late 70's Staffs (which I didn't keep because they felt just like the K-28s), a partial set of Ben Hogan Apex, and the Golden Rams.  Not counting the Staffs which were returned, the Golden Rams were the most expensive purchase at $18 for 3-PW.  It should have been $9 but the thrift store had split the set up and I had to buy multiple bundles of random clubs to get the full set.

I play classic Citation Stainless "DeLux" blades with stiff shafts. I am thinking about reshafting to regular. I don't like offsets. I do have persimond woods (Tommy Armour's 1,2,3,4) I used all of these from back in the '60's.
I use modern "woods".

I just picked up a Powerbilt Citation driver in really nice shape.  I took it to the range.  It might be shorter than the Ti, but it was a lot straighter.  I think I might have to keep it in the bag for a while.  The penalty strokes have been killing me.

I just acquired these beauties (1989 Wilson Staffs) and I cannot wait for the 2007 season to start so that I can put them into play.

These are the 'backups'.  Top is a 1965 Dyna-Power and below is a 1971 Button Back.

Hi guys I am a newbie here but Geekoman and Bigdaddy amoung others told me this was the place to be. I am a huge lover of classic equipment. The FGI escapees will vouch that I have over 50 sets of irons in my garage. My favorites and true clasics are,

1) Spalding Tour Edition blades, I have a set I have never seen before, its a mint set of box blades. Amazing condition and like I said I have never seen the box look in the Tour ED. Great set.

2) Cleveland 485s, Got a set of heads 5 to PW mint mint on Ebay. Man talk about pure. No mussle on these puppys

3) Ram Tour Grind 898s...Not as old as the others but classic and pure.

4) Goldwin NP57s. Not quite as butter as I would have thought but PURE.

5) Mcgregor Colokrom. What a set these were mid 80s copy of the earlier set. Real nice.

6) Callaway Bobby Jones, not a forging but still great feel and no mussle

7) Ram Tour Grind Axiel...Different looking set, real nice feel. Have to get used to the funny design.

Founders Club 2000, what a great set, got them off anouther Utah pro (Keith Clearwater) These are one of the best designes ever. Look alot like KZG Zero offsets.

9) Cobra Greg Norman Signature. Differnet look in the mussle is the high side of the iron and not low. Helps keep it low

10) Mizuno MS7. My alltime favorite Mizuno blade. what a great look, almost look like somthing on the shirt of a guy in a honky tonk. Super butter. They would be 1 or 2 but are only 8 out of 10 and not MINT MINT MINT.

Hmention....HONMA pp737. Great set, some say forged some say cast. I dont know but man great button back look and feel.

As you can see I have a problem buying too many older classics. I play them all and in tournaments too.

Its great to be here and I hope I can be a helpfull part of your website.

I play a set of 1982 Titleist blades almost all the time, I like them and they work.  Not much left for grooves but not really rusty and never abused.  Anyone else with me?

My 1983 Hogan Apex PC blades are in the bag.   clapping

Not having played these, I can't speak to that aspect.  But, Frequency Matched was a designation that Ram began using around 1987, continuing through the early 90s (the FX Forged replaced them around 92 or so).

The Axials were an oversized clubhead, at least as compared to the other Tour Grinds at the time.  Some have said them to be more forgiving, can't say for sure.

I have a theory that they were the model for the cast molds used for the FX Nickels that Ram sold in 96 and 97, as the Nickels were larger than their predecessors.

Just a couple random thoughts, since I'm a bit of a Ram geek.

I bought the Louisville thumper for the same reason you are thinking of it.  The big heads bother me.

Besides, It feels good to hit a wood.

I have played classic clubs most of my years of playing.  I had a set of 1967 Haig ultra irons, Haig Ultra Crenshaw grind, Hogan PC, I played with an M85W Eye-O-Matic until 1989.  I currently have a set of Wood Bros. Forged blades, they are a beautiful set and look exactly like Mizuno mp33's but are the quintessential blade iron.

I don't know if these count as "classics," but I play Ping Eye 2+ irons, and a Ping Anser 4 putter.

Anyone have any opinions about Wilson Staff Progressive Irons from the mid 1990's? As in: these.

I had a set and honestly did not think they were any good. However, my experience was with the stock shafts that kept breaking off at the hosel. The head looked good to me and felt pretty solid, but was just a little more forgiving than blades.

I just found a set of 1983 Titleist tour blades, square toe, left handed, dynamic regular shafts, brand new.  They are in the original shipping display box and still in plastic.  They have never been hit.  I know that I can't hit them.  The heads are so small.  Any suggestions on how I might find someone interested in these "classics"?  Thanks.
