Well, I myself am not old by any stretch of the imagination, but I've always liked the looks of the old clubs.  I've heard you guys in here (the old group) speak of the old muscle backs, persimmons and heard br61 mention the niblick that he bought new. [smiley=grin2.gif]

I'm looking forward to some of you old guys to talk about more of these really old clubs.  popcorn

Niblick? I don't recall buying any niblick (yet!) but I do have several persimmon woods that I mess around with once a while, playing with over 10 yr old set of irons. Now I'm thinking about putting in a late '60 putter in my bag. Hopefully, no one will think I'm a classical ho' cause I'll go nuts being 50 yds behind everyone's drives.

All I need is a old classic leather bag, anyone got one?  [smiley=grin2.gif]

My first really true players irons were a set of 1974 Hogan Director irons.  1-Equalizer.  I was using a set of Tommy Armour Ben Hogan model woods that were my grandpas.  My putter was a Ping My Echo.

I followed the Hogan train until 1980 when I bought my first set of Ram Tour Grinds.

Couple years later, I started playing the Wilson Staff blades.  Went thru several sets of those.

Graduated to the 67 MacGregor VIP irons.  Loved those.

Moved on to MacGregor Muirfield irons.

Then to Ping Eye 2 irons.

Now for the woods, I have played all the old MacGregor woods,  MacGregor Hogans, M43's, M85's, 693's.

Still have all these clubs in the basement.  Can't get rid of them.  Too dear to my heart to rid my self of these.

I played and collected the old stuff until about 1990.  I have at least 6 sets of dynapower irons-- 1960 black buttons, and 1965s mostly-- they were in all the tour players bags at the time.  Everyone-- and I mean every one on tour played Staff Dynapower sandwedges-- mostly black buttons 1959s and 1960s... they were so soft and playable... I also have Tommy Armour drivers-- the deep faced models which were preferred 945s, 693s ... They are SO solid nothing compares.  My favorite is a have an super rare M05 5-wood (actaually 2 of them) with a swan neck and brass sole plate-- it was $500 in 1980!! It was  favorite at Masters time and Floyd, Irwin and some of the other guys loved them.  The market dropped out of these with metal heads in early 1990s... but it was pretty amazing to see the PGA tour pros back then hawking club bins, and granny's garage because you just couldn't replicate 50 year old persimmon, and if you could find a deep faced MacGregor  like a 945 that sat square, or a fairway wood, it was priceless to those guys...
