Sounds good!
Since we had this discussion in January, I have changed grips (overlap to interlock) and changed back, hit balls 3 or 4 days a week, traveled to Florida and played every day for a week.
I am more convinced than ever that a first class grip, a very good set-up, relaxed hands, good hand action, and proper sequencing are the keys to hitting the ball long and straight.
You can work on proper hand action by taking your stance, cocking your wrists with the club parallel to the ground and on your toe line with your hands still directly in front of you, and then taking a short backswing and hitting through the ball. It will really get you to release properly through the ball with your hands.
The best sequencing drill is still the baseball drill - move your left foot back to your right during the backswing and then back to its initial position before you start the downswing. It gets the body to swing the arms, and not the other way around. You can also do this drill this way: take your stance, then place your left foot next to your right foot. Take the club back with your feet together, and then step forward just before the backswing is complete.
These drills will really help keep you swing natural; as well, they may force you to take a little shorter backswing - which may be a good thing, as you might determine that you have more power with a shorter backswing.
Let us know how the longer driver is working out!
