Puma Tech Pants
Simply The Best Lightweight Golf Pants
Clothing can be tough to review. If it fits and covers my flesh then it does its job. It seems that clothing becomes more about personal style than about function. But I must admit Puma’s new Tech Pants blew me away. I have worn, Nike, Dockers, Adidas, Hagar, etc. They are all kind of the same, the only difference being that some are cotton and some are a polyester blend/dry-fit material. The Puma Tech pants are in the polyester/dry-fit category of pants, since they are made of 78% polyester, 16% bamboo, and 6% elastane. After wearing them on and off the course for about a month, I have found they are much more than just your run of the mill dry-fit pants. They have a bunch of tech stuff, specifically the bamboo and the elastic, which makes them one of the best golf pants on the market.

When buying golf clothes the fit is always the number one concern. If they are too loose they get caught on stuff or even snagged during swings. If they are too tight they are uncomfortable to walk or swing. So with any apparel I think it is important to try them on first, but if you are like me and love to shop the Internet I will offer my findings when it comes to fit. I typically wear a 34x30 pants. Now this was not a size that Puma offered, so I decided to go the next size up 36x32. I am glad I did, they fit perfectly. I found them to fit closer to a 35x31 almost 34x30. So don’t be afraid to go up in size for the better fit on these, it depends on your build. They are a rather straight cut pant, with a very comfortable fit around the waist and thighs. They were not as long as I feared, but sat nicely on the top of my shoes.
Besides how these pants fit, they felt great on, or should I say, they felt like they were barely on. These are the lightest pair of pants I have ever put on. They are so light and comfortable. I can’t wait to really give them the heat test. So far I have just worn them in warm indoor venues to see how they worked. They are so cool; I would imagine that even in the sweltering mid-summer heat they would still feel like shorts. So if you can’t wear shorts for an occasion or golf outing, these will be the next best things. I did wear them here in the early spring rounds in MN. They offered very little protection from the cold and the wind cut through them fairly easily. So I tested them with my Under Armor long johns on underneath. That worked out well heat wise, but because of the waffle pattern on the inside of these pants, they would kind of stick to the Under Armor. I wouldn’t suggest these for cold weather.

But there is more. The lower back of the leg section is treated with Teflon. It worked better than any of the other pants I have ever tried with Teflon. During one of my rounds, it was a wet sloppy day. I was spraying up mud and grime all over these pants. At the end of my round I brushed my pants off with a towel and instantly they were clean. I got home and my wife commented how clean I looked for how sloppy it was outside. It was amazing. My wife also liked the way that they came out of the laundry week after week. They are exactly same color black as when they started and wrinkle free each time, with no shrinkage. Care for these pants is a breeze, wash, dry, wear and repeat.
The only other issue that I liked and disliked at the same time was the PUMA emblem just below the left pocket about mid thigh. It looks cool when you are golfing, but if you wear them to the office, it looks a little out of place in a more formal setting. My secretary asked if I had a string on my pants, only to find out I had this white outline of a PUMA.
The other features are pretty standard, two front scoop pockets rather than side cut pockets, and two backside pockets that have hidden buttons and kind of blend into the seeming on the back. The right side belt loop has the trademark PUMA six-sided 18-dot pattern. The only downside I can find for these pants will be the price. They retail for $95, which is on the pricey side for a pair of pants, but considering the technology that is incorporated into these pants and the outstanding quality of fit and comfort, you get what you pay for.
If you are looking for more out of your pants than just covering your legs, you would be hard pressed to find a more comfortable, lightweight, tech infused pair of pants.
