Run away! Run away!

« on: July 30, 2008, 12:08:36 PM »

Yesterday, scored myself what I am terming an interesting find on the sludge pool that is ebay.

A new, unhit, MacGregor persimmon, from the 80s.  Apparently won by the seller's father at a country club tournament, and just packed away.

A couple blurry pics from the auction:

We need an interesting EBay stuff thread. I was bidding on an oversized Bobby Grace MacGregor belly putter that I've never seen before. Rye, DrewSpin and I always email each other good looking old iron sets. We need a thread.

In the spirit of old iron sets, here's my recent acquisition (thanks for the heads up Drew!):

These should be firmly in the bag for the Persimmon Classic.

I have irons to bring to the Persimmon Classic, but my eyes are open for something greater and better.

Yes!  All the old metal spikes were the same thread size, and they make softspikes that fit them.

They are SMOKIN'

Yeah, but a little small and a bit pricey.  Especially when you can have these for the same amount:

Those are awesome.  Do you think they do some custom glass heels w/fish in them?

I'm relatively sure the same Co. makes shoes for Miguel Angle Jimenez...

The auction I really wanted to win, and screwed up on, was this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=290248037121

I'm getting some entertainment out of the assorted wound balls out there on ebay.  Even saw some Slazengers and Bridgestone Rextar balatas.  The guy who wants essentially $40/dozen for Titleist Professionals makes me LOL, though.

That guy has four more sets. He'll sell them for $150.00 BuyItNow. Geekoman warned me against them, saying it wasn't worth it for that price. (Trust me, I've looked.)

TG-898s aren't bad, but they aren't worth $150, since it wasn't that long ago they were being blown out by a liquidation site for a lot less.

The original sets were better, but some of the ones you see now are just random heads thrown together; nothing remotely close to sorted.  Or so is the word I've heard (take it fwiw).

Still prefer the Goldens, I admit.  Grin

Here's the auction: Sam Snead Blue Ridges, my original set of clubs.

So go figure that it is two damned weeks before my girlfriend or I have any money. This guy couldn't have waited another two weeks until I was financially strong enough to win the bidding? It's as if he didn't know I was out there, looking for this exact set.

I'm relatively sure the same Co. makes shoes for Miguel Angle Jimenez...

These shoes(which is only one of the brands that Stewart wore along with Footjoy Classics and Par West Custom) are made by Vecci, a custom shoe maker from Italy.

Jimenez wears Nebuloni Shoes, also from Italy.

http://www.nebulonishoes.com/home.php

There's a seller on Ebay that gets them direct from the factory and has them at $460 a pair:

http://tinyurl.com/6exqln

Or you can get lucky with a lightly used pair of the classic black wingtip for $80 if you happen to wear size 13.

Thanks for the info.

I'm quite impressed with your intimate knowledge of Italian custom golf shoe makers.  An insider among us here at GD....?

Nope, just a guy with major foot problems.  I've looked at probably every brand out there trying to find something comfortable.  For awhile I was getting custom shoes in the hopes that they would be better, but they didn't particularly help...though they did look nice.
