Hi Guys, looking to see if anyone can offer any shaft options for a set of irons. Driver swingspeed 100-105, i load it up hard at the top of the swing, fast tempo, release mid to late and i'm quite a strong build. It's not a rythm and timing swing just brute force and ignorance i'm afraid!  laugh
Currently have Nippon 1150 X tour flex and i quite like them but open to other ideas.
thanks for any help.

A guy did a nice study with two golfers and four shafts. I'll do some checking to see if it is ok to post them here.

Regards,
Todd

That would be god if you find it Todd.
KBs, i'll look into them, How do they play? I used to use Rifle 6.5s but i just cant find proj Xs to feel the same.
OK, I like them as they are smooth,,, whatever that is  cheesyf  Smooth is a good description, I can hit them flat out and they feel good and the head is just where you want it. But then on an easy swing, the feeling is exactly the same. Not stiff, boardy or anything, they just feel there!
I know you think why think of changing but i'm just interested to see before i build a new set of Irons and i don't want to think,, if only i'd tried XXX when i'v got them in play.

I would agree with KB tours, great shafts the guy that designed the PX shaft is the designer of these. Nippons also a great feeling shaft I personally like the 1150 model. If you want something different but they are pricey I would try e21 shafts.

A Project X will never feel the same as a standard Rifle, even if you go down in flex.  It has a different flex profile.

Here are results from two different golfers, different ball speeds

The numbers were posted on a different golf forum but it's being available for the first time here in OptimalFlight format. (source:  Bruce from the http://www.usgolfacademy.com/ )

Same MP57 head, 4 different shafts, all built the same.  Summary results from a set of shots presented.

Note:  OptimalFlight is in excellent agreement with all 4 results (carry #'s on the highlighted light blue row)

What to look for:
1) Higher ball speed player (above picture) created more launch (2-4*)
2) This higher launch also contributed to a steeper landing angle.
3) The amount of spin is similar.  Stiffest result PX6.5 generated the most spin.

Flight D average is a bit questionable - which can be a result of shot to shot inconsistency.  I suspect a shot or two would have been better left out of the average summary analysis.

What can we conclude here?  PX5.5 is comparable to DGS300, where the DGS300 generates a bit more 300rpm more spin but not significant enough to have a 'minor' effect.

So - we have two shafts producing similar results for the same 6iron head.  The final decision becomes an easy one - whichever one 'feels' the best.  Some golfers may favor PX5.5 over DGS300.  For others, it is the other way around.

Launch monitor testing with a 'purpose' like this accelerates an understanding of what's happening, why, and can lead to smarter equipment decisions to complement a player's game and swing.

Todd

Very cool Todd! I am surprised that there isn't more of a difference in numbers, I know that there is a HUGE difference in feel, but not a whole lot else.

I'm shocked to see the stiffer PX Produce more spin. That doesnt make sense.Normally the stiffer shaft produces lower flight and less spin. His flight was lower but not the spin
