Well, all seems to be well in driver land.

I hit the range again this morning before my match and think I might have it figured out (for now at least). I continued to tee the ball lower and standing a hair farther away from the ball than I had been in the past. That has me hitting the center of the face probably 75% of the time or better. I still had a tendency to draw/hook the ball though, so I finally got around to playing with different weight configurations. I set the weights up for a slight fade (heavier weights on the outside of the clubhead) and immediately started hitting the ball dead straight to a very gentle fade. I still don't hit it as long as my old driver, but I know that is due to the difference in shaft stiffness (regular flex in the old driver). I hit driver today on 11 holes, of which I hit 5 fairways and had three more just a couple of steps off the fairway. I pushed two of them to the right pretty good (operator error) and teed it too low on another resulting in a worm-burning slice (still made par). I would say my average distance today was in the neighborhood of 270-280yds with one of them pushing about 310yds with the wind helping. Overall, I am pretty happy with the way I hit it today considering there was a near constant 15mph wind all day and it was in my face on 3-4 holes. Plus, I had my best round ever on the course I was playing and my lowest round since November or December...
77! Back about 4 months ago, I was shooting upper 70's to lower 80's pretty consistently, but I have been all over the place the last couple of months. The last few weeks I have had four 84's in a row, 80, 87, 89, 94 and 82 leading up to the 77 today.
Thanks for talking me through all this mess and giving me some ideas to try. I'll probably still tweak things a little in the future (maybe drop back to a stiff shaft to gain a little more distance), but I think I am going to keep things as is for a month or two.
Cheers,
Patrick
