I have a 12 yr old son who is playing golf now. He has a junior set of pings. SW, 9,7,5,3w, DR, putter. He's 5'1, about 74lbs, and hits the ball pretty good. I was just given a brand new set of nike procombo OS irons, that I have no interest in using and am trying to get him in a full set. What kind of set up would the club fitters here recommend so I can use these irons for his set. They have a stiff shaft in them now, what shaft would you use, ect. would I have to back weight so they won't feel so heavy or what would you do? Also I don't know what his swing speed is, but with the Ping driver he has, which is 15*, he hits it about 165 to 190. He hits the sand wedge, in the air about 70yds. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

At 12 years old, he's probably going through a growth spurt, or will be.....and getting much stronger.  It's time to get him into some light weight steel shafts in his irons and wedges.

The one that I would recommend is the FST Pro Silver.  FST has a new light weight steel that's called the "90".....it hasn't been released yet, but is the same weight as the Silver.  100g at 41"

The Silver has a soft overall profile, feels great, and will have plenty of tip flex to help get the ball up.  Put some Prosoft inserts in these to reduce vibration and make them feel even better.

Do not ever use backweights for clubs that are too heavy.  It's the opposite, use them for your longer clubs that have lighter shafts, in order to bring your total weight closer to that of your shorter clubs with heavier shafts.
