Plain-in-shape is a joke.

Off topic a bit, but I've always wondered this:  What exactly is meant by plain in shape?  If it's round, square, etc. that's one thing.  But if it refers more to the clubhead being symmetrical, that's another.   FWIW, I always thought it meant symmetrical, otherwise many putters would have been banned long before the square driver craze.   And I don't see a problem with this driver, although I'd be unlikely to play it.

I would take "plain in shape" to mean generally the shape of older clubs (the pear shape), without protrusions or sharp edges. I don't know, I have a picture in my head, but I'm not sure how to describe it, other than the Tour Burner is "plain in shape" to me, while the new square r7 is not.

It definitely would be interesting to see an exact definition.  My suspicion is this driver is fine with the two Enterprise engines on the back, but if it had a single one on either side it would be a problem.

A perfect example is the Cameron Futura. If that passes the "plain in shape" test, then I think almost anything will, because that is anything but plain.

Maybe the USGA's stance on "plain in shape" borrows the Supreme Court's definition of obscenity:  "We can't describe it, but we know it when we see it."

That sounds about right in line with the USGA's usual vagueness... whist

Plain in shape has always been very subjective.  Those companies that receive beneficial rulings also tend to be cash rich.   winkey

For example, the girl in your Avatar is not "plain" in shape.  cheesyf

I thought that rule only applied to woods and irons.  If it applies to putters as well then there are some egregious examples of plain shapes.  Sabertooth, Fang, Futura, frog, etc

You're good to go on the 9015 mr3putt, it's over on the first page of this thread.  It looks like it was put on the list in Feb.  Make sure to give us a nice review of that thing after you hit it a few times!   popcorn
