I have a great 5 wood (Cally '04, 42 1/2", Accra SC75 M5 untipped, I believe and CPM at 275 which is bang on the x flex rating on the Golfsmith chart) this club is pretty long, perfect trajectory and I can move it and lean on it when I want to!! Also I don't really believe I am a X flex player but this just seems to work for some strange reason...

What I want is the same feel/performance shaft in a 3 wood and have tried to get one made up but been recommended by the same clubfitters to go with an Accra SC 75 M4 S flex which was put into a Cally X tour 15 but the feeling is just not there. I believe the M4 is tipped about 3/4" and as a result I don't feel the clubhead as well and it feels just a touch dead.

I have also had previously made up a Sonartec ss07 14 with a matrix Code 8 9S flex I think CPM at 270 again spot on X flex on the chart) which a bit stiff goes very well if a bit low - I have the same head at 15 degree and may simply do a swap over.

Anyway anyone have an opinion on the Accra SC problem and a suggestion for a good compromise off the deck and tee head..!!??

Hard to tell what's up with the 3w as the model of head isn't mentioned nor is the freq.

The untipped M5 5w is playing softer than designed.  Basically it's become a low kickpoint shaft in that configuration and low kp shafts tend to play softer than the measured freq.

Sounds like your installer made a logical attempt to match the M5 but in a different head.  It's very difficult to get a shaft in two different flexes to match up in feel.  The SC does stiffen up with tipping like any other shaft but may do so alittle faster than some.  If possible, perhaps it can be short shafted alittle to bring back feel.  Some say you can't feel a 1/4" but I've seen and felt it myself. Subtle but it's there.

The other option is to have them exercise the 30day Accra guarantee....you get full credit for the SC75 M4 and pay labor for another SC75 or something else.

Good luck.

Got the Cally X Tour 3 wood 15 degree back to play with the Accra SC75 M4 shaft installed and tried it and it is pretty crap. just feels a bit unbalanced ie cannot feel the head that well and the shots tend to go high and a bit right Cry Cry

have you any experience of the heavier weighted SC shafts?

I've done mostly SC75's/65's.  Have not tried the 85/95.  An issue is the bore through Cally head....the Accra's are std bore shafts.  By using a M5 untipped, you've essentially converted the shaft.

I would consider using a SE70* in M4 untipped.  Will help you get more tip feel which I feel is the main issue with your SC75 M4.  The SE's have come down in price so perhaps your dealer can help you out.

I have been told that this particular head is light which therefore makes it harder for the club to kick through...I have asked about the 30 day guarantee on the basis that the shaft I got was the "recommended one" - I originally was going for a different model which they kindly swapped even though it hasn't worked out.

If all else fails it looks like it may be eBay bound

Check out some of the sponsors here. They can weight the head so that it performs and feels like you want it to. Adding rat glue/hotmelt to a Cally fw wood shouldn't be an issue at all to bring the head weight up.

The 30 day guarantee seems to rather conveniently only apply to the AXIV technology model...don't know whether this has always been the case....!!?!!??!!!
