Got my first chance to hit my new FW on the range after work yesterday. Mats and FW do not mix well (for me, at least), but I just had to try it. It's been a while since I've hit a 3 wood, so I was a bit rusty. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in another range session before my Saturday round.

In regards to looks, this club has a beautiful head and very clean look from address. The head is somewhat bigger compared to my two previous FW (Titleist 904F and 906F2), but I guess the face is also a bit shallower. I guess it just takes a little time adjusting to that. The club felt solid, and the sound is also very nice.

The shaft is very different from anything I've played before. It feels very smooth, almost like a regular flex shaft even though it is stiff. Because it is a new club, I did not quite get adjusted to the difference. Performance wise, I was very pleased. I felt I had good control over the ball. The ball was easy to elevate, and the flight was low/medium. I can't comment on the length, since it was getting dark, but it is definitely not short.

Overall, a very good club that I look forward to hitting some more balls with this weekend. When I get more comfortable with it, I will be able to go more after the ball.

As some of you might have seen in the german airplane thread (http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/03/03/germany.plane/index.html?iref=topnews) we had a very windy weekend over here in Europe.

Unfortunately, that meant I had to postpone my first round with my new Nak FW. On top of that, it has been snowing here the last couple of nights, so it will probably be a little while before my new club sees any real combat action. sad boy

Went to the range Monday and hit some more balls with it. Low, piercing ballflight and the club just felt great. I really hope I get to play a round with it, before leaving for Dubai in the Easter.

Rye, MacGregor makes great irons.
How do you compare the MacGregors with your old set of Hogans?
I just bought a set of MacGregor PCBs with Pro Pel shafts. I should receive the PCBs in a week. The possibility that the PCBs are Miuras adds my interest in these irons.
I have a set of MacGregor 1025 Musclebacks that I like a lot.
Thanks,
Gary

Gary,

I really like my Hogans and played well with them. They (Hogan) have always had a reputation for making great irons.

I bought my PCBs from someone here, and planned on having them fitted for me. But another set "got in the way" and I just plays the MacGregors as is. I really like the way they fell on solid shots. It's definitely a quality forging. They look great from address, thin topline and very little offset. Forgiveness is about the same on the two sets.

Good luck with your set.

I got a couple of boxes this week.

First up is my long awaited Byron Morgan 008X prototype putter no. 1 of 30.

It looks too perfect to unwrap, so it's still in the plastic. Thanks to Drew and Steve at TurfSurfer for letting me get my hands on this sweet flatstick.

Next up is a couple of Sonartec clubs I got from MadMax. A hybrid and a 5W, looking forward to putting both of these into play this season.

Dave,

I've had one range session with them, and also played 18 yesterday. I've posted some additional pictures in this thread. These blades are really small and have zero offset, zero cavity and zero game improvement. The evil kind of irons, that will require practice. The feel is good, but I think I have to play with them some more before I compare them to my last set of MacGregor/Miuras. The Nippon shafts feel great with the ProSoft inserts and they do a great job of keeping the ball flight down. I've always hit my irons very high.

Shawnee,

Thanks. The flight tag I got from you is on the opposite side of the bag. There isn't anywhere to put it on the driver headcover. One more reason to get another headcover for the L4V ... or a new driver altogether ... Titleist 909  whist

New Scratch wedges on the way from Frank. These will be hard to sell if I don't like them. winkey

First one is a 53* TNC grind bent to 54*. The other one is a 60* EGG grind (my Titleist PW is 49*).

To Rye , i apologize to you personally for the confusion with my humor on your clubs earlier . I found it funny that those clubs were made before i was born and someone still is hitting them. My idea wasn't to piss you off. So hope that is understood and i play a lot of golf. So trust me besides those being from the 80s i understand that the sweet spot is extremely tiny so impressive and ballsy that you play those, furthermore if you beat someone with those that must be nice. Proving that its the warrior and not the club. More power to you man for hitting what you like and besides the lack of shiny  space shuttle screaming chrome they aren't much different than the blades i hit, well you have a sweet spot about half the size of mine, next time ill edit and review my post of humor before it pisses someone off because that wasn't my goal. Keep rocking man and party like its 1983! Peace brother and i'm left handed also, hope the humor confusion and my wrong way of delivery wasn't a grudge for you to hold.

Thanks, and welcome to the board.

Hi Doc,

Thanks. I really like the Nippons, and I'm actually getting the same length out of my new 5 iron as I was getting out of the old, even though the loft is much weaker on the Titleist set. They Nippons keep the ballflight nice and low, I've had a tendency to hit my irons very high.

I previously played DGS 300.

I play 690s and hit the ball extremely high, so you say that the nippons hit the ball alot lower and dont sacrifice any distance? Might give those a try ,my 2005 model might could learn something from those 1983s huh LOL? Im looking for some iron shafts that will bring my ball down. Have you hit any project x shafts?

Ok. Which nippons do you have in your irons? Im looking for a new shaft upgrade and was wondering if you could tell me how the flex worked out in those, Because i have s300 dg and i hate them, hit the ball way too high so im asking around about shafts. I think i would like an x flex unless those nippons play stiffer than the flex label?
