I just refinished an old MacGregor Pacemaker wood shaft putter as a gift for my grandmother.  Can anyone tell me approximately how old that putter is?

The same model is on ebay:

Mine doesn't have a steel shaft, it seems to be wooden.  The grip on mine is not leather, it's a long thin tour wrap-like grip.

Matt,
I have a Macgregor book at home.  I will check it this evening and reply back to this thread.

Check your shaft with a magnet to make sure it's not sheathed steel...

I would say this putter is from the 30s.  I, too, have a MacGregor catalog book at home and can see if this putter is in the book.

Matt,
From what I see in the Macgregor catalog, there was a Pacemaker series of irons and woods that were manufactured in 1935.  There putters from that time don't appear to use the 'Pacemaker' name though.  Can you post a picture of it?

Unfortunately I don't have access to the putter at the moment but the above link shows the same putter head.

I've see this type fairly often. Some try to pass them off as Hickory.Plain brown sheathed shaft or pale wood grain and dot punched face . Mid-'30

That was a very common make of head and it was used by a number of club lines besides MacGregor.
The head sample I had was a "Fife". Exactly the same head just the face scoring and back stamping was changed from one line to another. Very upright lie, with little loft and thin leather grips for most.
