Since we use the putter for 40-50%   shocking of our strokes, how do you like your lines and dots?

Are you feel? Enjoy security?

1. Are you a sight dot only on the topline of the putter

2. Are you a sight line along the flange type of putter

3. Do you like both a sight line and sight dot? If so, do you paint both?

Why?

Second Question

1. Do you like to see nothing on the ball at address when you putt

2. Do you use a line or logo on the ball to line it up.

3. Do you draw your own line?

4. Are you anal retentive like me and balance the ball with a Check N' Go and draw the line?  laugh

I just ordered a long putter, Quadra II from Chin at Mentor Sports.  Where does that fit in on your survey?

I prefer nothing on the top lines,, but if have choice, then look for a dot.
But have the sightline on my Whitlam (confusing enough?). hunter

Usually prefer nothing visible on the ball, but switch out with lining up the logo if it's a hard putt to feel comfortable, really breaking hard or in scramble (so others can tell if hit my intended line or not).

All putters are nekked, have sight line(s) or dots/lines on top.

What say you?

Let's Talk Putters!!!!!!

« Reply #4 on: November 29, 2007, 10:27:20 AM »

Mine preference is to have AT LEAST 1 Sightline on the flange, with a clean topline.  I have tried Sight Dot's and Sightlines on the topline, and It doesn't work for me.  With the Single or Dual Sightline, I feel as if I can be more confident with my alignment ( even though the dang ball NEVER follows the Blasted line )

I have also tried using a clean putter ( no dots or lines ) and that was NOT a good experience.

On the ball, I use the model name on the ball for alignment.

First: I hate sightlines on the topline, but a sightline on the flange is almost a must have.  Either a single sightline or small double sightline both will work for me.  Why?  Just preference. Putted well with blank and sightdot putters, but I like looking down at a sightline.

Second: When putting all I see is the white part of the ball.

I also like at least one sightline on the flange. For the ball, I want to see only the white, no marks, nothing. I tried using a line on the ball for a little bit, but occasionally when it wasn't lined up exactly straight, it used to drive me nuts.

I prefer at least one sightline on the flange or several.  I can't stand the dots at all, lol.  If I go with a single sightline on the flange I can also do a sightline on the topline.  It's funny how particular I've gotten about this stuff over the last year, lol.

Your poll seems to be limited to a very specific class of putters since there is no option of a single alignment line without mention of a flange. You're also missing as an option what is still probably one of the most ubiquitous alignment features--2 balls.

My Circa 62 #2 has a white sight dot and when I line up my ball, I see nothing but white ball. No lines, logos, names, nothing but white. I tried the line thing, lining it up with my intended target line and I never got used to it. It also took too long to make sure the damn line was aiming exactly where I wanted it. I try and keep it simple stupid laugh

You can't please everyone!  laugh

I would say the sight dot and sight line on the topline would be the same choice -- I didn't put a sight oval in there and I like an oval.

Let me edit the poll.

I usually go for an Anser Style Blade -- after having all of the above in the poll, I go with

1. Sight Dot (with paintfill) (or Sight Oval (paintfill outlined))  and Sight Line (no paintfill) on the flange. This allows me to lineup the Sight Oval with the Sight Line on the Flange to make sure the putter is soled correctly.

2. My current gamer is a SeeMore mFGP and it has a small white sight line on top with the RST System.

3. As to the ball, I do put a line on it using the Check 'n Go (balancing the ball).

Immediately before I stroke the putt, I am thinking feel and getting a feel for the speed of the putt.

One thing I'd like to ask those that prefer a simple sight dot as opposed to some kind of line is:

Do you use the sight dot only for striking the ball on the sweetspot of the face, or do you somehow use it for aiming purposes too?

I would only use the dot to make sure I hit the sweet spot on the putter.

I still miss my clean top Cameron TEI3 either Santa Fe or Newport (can't remember which).
It wasn't fit very good for me, now that I know more about fitting.  Didn't feel as good as my Whitlam does, but it was a rare putter to see and looked very sharp.

Where ever the Monza Corxa fits in - I am just about done building my second 42" Belly putter  laugh

I guess you would have to put this in one of the sightline categories?

I'd say sight line on the flange.  Roll Eyes

Currently using a mallet with a single sight line. When using an Anser style blade I like dual sight lines on the cavity flange with a single dot on top. Alignment is so critical in putting I don't quite get why anyone wouldn't want aids.

I am most definitely anal-retentive and use the check n go balanced and with a full circle.  Since the Line M Up pro was launched, I have added target lines, as well.

I find it difficult to believe in an anonymous poll, we don't have more than 25 voters expressing their preference.

Hey Guys -- Putting is Where it is at.

Putting and Short Game!

You guys who are frozen out -- that gives you time to think!

Please think about it with an answer to our poll!   shocking

Thank you for your support.

I putt left hand low(the best way to go!)and like a black centre shafted putter with a single white line.I`m using a centre shafted Whitlam Hummer 33 1/2" at the moment. This actually has 3 sightlines, but my preference is for 1.I really like the look of the Mentor Triad 11 centre shaft in black,I might have to give one a go.

Single sight line on the flange for me.

The three sightlines on my X2 were too much, so I was aiming with the putter face (thinking 90° across the target line). Too complicated, didn't work.  big_giggle
My Studio Design #2 has a sight dot on the top line and a white line along the flange. Worked really well, you should give this a go. The putter doesn't fit my stroke unfortunately. It has great feel, too.  Cry

I voted for single sightline on the flange because this is how I will have my next and last putter, the Byron Morgan 007. Simple, yet effective.
I like to align the logo with the target line, for my subconciousness seems to sabotage my aiming decisions and mess with my swing...

I hate sight lines...PERIOD!  That is why my Drivers and fw's have nothing on top...........I don't think I have ever used a sight line!  The biggest problem is that most do not learn how to properly align themselves if they depend on sightlines.  And worse...if the manufacture has the head (any head) open or closed...the sight line becomes a Major problem for the golfer............whether they know it or not!  I use the leading edge to align toward target and I beg others to do the same!

I love a long line on the flange  the longer the better.  I rarely miss short putts any more and the it is because of the confidence I have in my alignment on the short ones 5' and in.
