Paula Creamer won that event, the first of her two LPGA victories so far this season and fourth of her five career wins as a professional.
Nice to see they get their facts right... Creamer now has 6 wins with her 2 so far this year. Dave

Good point, Dave. Creamer has really shown her fierce desire to win over the last 2 weeks. Interesting comparison between Creamer and Wie in one article -- going back and forth between the two. Thanks, SBR67, for posting it.

It's nice to see that a college education has helped Ms Wie be more lucid in her comments. Grief she is so unintelligible. But then as long as she can make decisions even if they are bad ones, who cares.

Well, they had to make sure that they mentioned a person actually worth reporting on; Lord knows Michelle hasn't done anything newsworthy in quite some time - unless you count the negative things she's done, like pissing off most of the Tour members... not to mention one of the best female golfers ever. Wie-sy shot a slick 75 today leaving her 12 shots off the lead through the first half of round 1. Currently in 99th place and sure to fall into the 120s as many players have yet to tee off on a course that's playing very easy. The good news is that she'll have the weekend off to continue working on her interview skills.

Smooth little 75, with just 1 birdie on the card. Interesting that former Big Breakers Becky Lucidi & Kristy McPherson both have done better than the "phenom", though Kristy is only thru 5 holes.

Who Says Women Golfers are at a disadvantage to men? Matching lavender outfit: $200 New pair of French sunglasses: $100 NIKE products Endorsements: $10,000,000 Having a 'special place' to hold your putter . . . PRICELESS

Wie won't take part in Sorenstam's tourney
Published: May 12, 2008
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C.(AP) Don't look for Michelle Wie at this year's Ginn Tribute hosted by Annika Sorenstam.
Wie did not seek an exemption into the event she played a year ago, the tournament said. Last May, Wie, citing a wrist injury, withdrew after playing 16 holes of her opening round.
Wie said she left because of her wrist and not because she was two-shots shy of the LPGA Tour's "88" rule. That would have banned her from further tour exemptions until the following season for shooting an 88 or higher.
Wie, however, was seen practicing at the LPGA Tour's next stop.
This year, tournament exemptions went to LPGA rookie Ashleigh Simon from South Africa and Duke golfer Alison Whitaker.
The tournament takes place at RiverTowne Country Club from May 29-June 1. She didn't seek an exemption, sounds like she wasn't offered one either.

"You can't fire me, I quit!!" I love how PR flacks spin things. From Wie's people it's "we didn't seek an exemption" while to everyone else it's "Wie wasn't getting an exemption if she was the last golfer on earth"

In golfweek it specifically said she was denied an exemption because they were probably going to give it to that south african girl. I think the statement that she didn't seek an exemption is a bit of revisionism by the wie camp.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/golf/orl-fowler2108may21,0,1729501,print.storyLPGA golfer Michelle Wie getting healthy in body, mindMichelle Wie is confident that after a year of college and recovering from a wrist injury, she finally can reach her goals.Jeremy Fowler Sentinel Staff Writer May 21, 2008 The great thing about college is that even the students worth $19.5 million have to separate reds from whites. "I had laundry and the clothes came out a little crunchy," said Michelle Wie, a freshman at Stanford. "I've learned a lot from my mistakes and it's been great." Wie's golf career, too, is running on spin cycle. With a haunting wrist injury behind her and the chance to restore her name, Wie is coming to an LPGA Tour venue near you this summer. It's no surprise Wie says she gets pointed at and chatted about when she struts through campus. Getting noticed was never her problem. Making cuts is. Now that Wie is a college student who says she loves to go dancing and listen to techno, self-discovery trumps the sport she loves. Maybe a few parties have loosened up Wie's golfing approach as she walks back into her tightly wound corporate pressure. "Last year I didn't know what I was doing or who I wanted to be," Wie told the Sentinel recently while working out at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in ChampionsGate. "It was just a phase, but now I'm more comfortable with myself. I realize golf is not the biggest deal in the whole world. Golf is just a game. It won't kill anyone." But it will determine whether she's worth the long-term investment her sponsors throw her way. Wie made $19.5 million in 2007, according to CNN, with almost all of it coming off the course. After living in a Cardinal-sized cocoon for the last semester, Wie will make Central Florida one of her off-week homes for working out with Leadbetter and driving that silver Mercedes Benz GL550. The famous wrist she injured last May is about 90 percent, Wie says, but confidence might be much lower after a nightmarish 2007 that prompted questions about her parents' overwhelming presence or her falling victim to being too good too young. It wasn't long ago that Wie had no problem cracking the top 5 in an LPGA event. Sponsor's exemptions have Wie firmly cemented in at least four LPGA events from now until August, including the Wegmans LPGA in Pittsford, N.Y., the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic in Sylvania, Ohio, the Safeway Classic in Portland and the LPGA State Farm Classic in Springfield, Ill. Only a series of qualifiers will get Wie into the U.S. Women's Open in late June. Just as reported boyfriend Robin Lopez is trying to earn first-round status in the NBA draft through strong individual workouts, Wie desperately needs a strong summer. "I plan to have one," Wie said. "I think I can. This is the first time I've been healthy in a long time." Pause for golf-to-gossip transition: Wie says Robin is "a friend" and won't go any further. "It all blew up and we were just hanging out," she said. "But I like to keep my personal life personal." Back to golf. Wie won't reach her lofty goals by relying on sponsor's exemptions, but in a sport with a thin line between a 67 and a 76, wouldn't we settle on a couple top-50 finishes at this point? Wie already missed the cut at the Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill two weeks ago. She either missed the cut or withdrew in seven of nine LPGA events last year. With an innocuous sense of her own teenage years and a self-assured demeanor, Wie says a year of college taught her to think for herself and live with freedom. She still giggles like a high schooler, admitting she listens to the Backstreet Boys and likes to go dancing with her friends. She's clumsy and constantly runs into things, she said. Less goofy is Wie's defense of her parents, who have been publicly criticized for allegedly over-parenting and forcing Wie to turn pro. "Those people who say that probably don't understand," Wie said. "If you want to be critical of someone's decisions, have your own kids." If she did it all over again, Wie said she would have stopped playing after injuring her wrist at last year's Ginn Tribute hosted by Annika Sorenstam, which she won't be attending next week. That's no surprise because of the sour taste her 2007 withdrawal left the Ginn folks. Now that she's healthy and playing a full summer schedule, at least we can see if there's more left than a long, powerful swing. "I believe I can become the player I want to be in the long run," Wie said. "My goals haven't changed a whole lot. I love when people think that I have that sort of potential, because I still feel I have that potential."

http://www.thegolfchannel.com/core.aspx?page=15100&select=26024Wie Playing Ladies European Tour Event in Germany MUNICH, Germany -- Michelle Wie will make her first appearance in a full Ladies European Tour field at this week’s German Open. The 18-year-old American was given a sponsor’s invitation to play in the event, which begins Thursday. A sore wrist hurt in March and studies at Stanford University have limited her to just two tournaments on the LPGA Tour this year. “I feel a lot healthier and I want to start playing more and playing some good golf,” Wie said Tuesday. “My goal is just to have fun and keep my head on straight and shoot some low scores.” The 172nd-ranked Wie shot a practice round Tuesday with 18-year-old Amy Yang of South Korea, the European Tour’s leading money earner. Others in the field include recent winners Lisa Hall, Emma Zackrisson, Gwladys Nocera and Lotta Wahlin. Wie played the Fields Open in Hawaii and Michelob ULTRA Open in Virginia two weeks ago. “I found at the last tournament I was really rusty and I needed to play in more tournaments,” Wie said. “I thought, ‘Wow, Munich,’ I’ve never been there and it’s a great opportunity.” The event is the first held by the Ladies European Tour in Germany in seven years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Does anyone know if the LET offers appearance fees? Are they considered the AAA of Ladies golf or is that the Future's Tour?

I was just wondering when Michelle's next missed cut would be... The LET seems to be similar to the European PGA Tour, though not with the prestige that the EPGA has. I'd maybe say that it is like the Asian Tour or the Sunshine Tour as far as level of play compared to the PGA Tour. Certainly not the level of the EPGA or the Nationwide Tour compared to the PGA Tour. Dave

Maybe this will give her a little confidence boost. http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=3421144&campaign=rss&source=GOLFHeadlinesTeen Yang wins Ladies German Open; Wie finishes sixthMUNICH, Germany -- South Korean teenager Amy Yang shot a 5-under 67 on Sunday to win the Ladies German Open by four strokes, and Michelle Wie had a solid final round to finish sixth. Michelle Wie completed a tournament under par for the first time since 2006.The 18-year-old Yang, who lives in Orlando, Fla., had a course-record 63 on Saturday and finished with a 21-under 267 total for her first victory as a professional. Sweden's Louise Stahle was second at 17 under, and Gwladys Nocera of France was another stroke back in third. Yang said she will donate the $61,260 she earned for winning the tournament. "I was thinking about the China earthquake for some time. And I thought, if I win the tournament, I would give them the winnings to help them build up," said Yang, who lived in Australia for three years before moving to Orlando this year. "A few days ago they had big rains and a lot of them lost their houses. "I saw a lot of news. And every time I would be thinking about it. It's really sad." It was not the first pro title for Yang, who beat Karrie Webb in a playoff in February 2006 at the Ladies Masters in Australia as a 16-year-old. Yang took second place last week to Suzann Pettersen at the Swiss Open. Wie had a last-round 67 to finish 14 under, the first time since the Evian Masters in July 2006 that she completed a tournament under par -- a streak of 13 events that included seven missed cuts. he finished tied for second at that Evian Masters. "It's been a really long time since I shot that score," Wie said. "So now I know what it feels like and can put it in the memory bank. And I feel like I can go lower." Wie started the fourth round by chipping in for an eagle on the first hole. She added birdies on the third and seventh holes, then bogeyed the ninth before finishing with birdies on 17 and 18. Wie, who came into the tournament ranked 172nd, next will play a U.S. Open qualifier. "I feel a lot more confident about my game," Wie said. "With that being said, a person's greed is always wanting something more. I'm very happy with my score, but at the same time, I could have done better."

You know Wei-thread-folks, (well, some of you...) you spend a huge amount of time and energy complaining about Michelle Wei. Seems you can’t deal with not being as successful as her, and probably never getting any closer to her than you are here. Anthropologically, and psychologically, its called the whining anger of immature & frustrated love. Was it you mom, or your early potty training?

Anthropologically, and psychologically, its called the whining anger of immature & frustrated love. Was it you mom, or your early potty training? Realistically, its called being realistic and expecting someone to live up to the hype. Is success measured in dollars given to someone when they haven't produced? I see plenty of failures pushing shopping carts around town on my way to work. I don't really want to get any closer to them than passing by at 65MPH either. You come on here and post in three different threads your ideas on club design and singing the blues about how the OEM's are burying them. Anthropologically, and psychologically, its called the whining anger of a immature & frustrated wanna be inventor. You are in China, right? I'm sure that you can find plenty of the counterfitters to work for. Do you really think that if your ideas had any merit, that the OEM's and component companies would bury them and not try to buy them? Welcome to the board. I had edited and deleted almost all of my above post, but screw it. If the Mods and Admins deem it to be inappropriate, go ahead and get rid of it.

Sounds like you have some first hand experience with this. Maybe this also causes people to anonymously join an online forum so they can pretend they are smarter then they really are and make patronizing posts about people they know nothing about. All in the hopes of making their manhood grow that extra 1/2 inch so they can find it. Please, let us know how that works out for you.

Actually, most of us feel she was/is a great talent who was mismanaged by her parents (as to her career, not $$$) and her coaches. So, all of this pent-up anger you've released just waiting to make your post, was it worth it? M Wie made a small step toward coming back on a 6200 yard course. Finally, a course she is able to handle. A women's course. Makes sense.
