It's going to be great for Michelle to participate in her 1st event without her parents hanging around. I read somewhere that Beth Daniels banished them from team's hotel, meeting and dining room. I think it'll enable her and other LPGA players to get to know each other better.

I still firmly believed that her controlling parents are behind many of Michelle's bad decisions and situations.

I agree. Her parents and management did good by her in the $$$ department, but at what cost to her early on? I think that it's great that the older players are accepting her more. Christina Kim could help her a lot, I think.

Now it will be interesting to see if this is the first of many.

Sony supposedly dumped her to. Don't be surprised to see her still carrying the Sony bag. Camp Wie doesn't want questions about it.

Still carrying the bag with SONY written near the top edge above the strap...saw it today prior to her win at Lorena's tournament.

As much as I have picked on her in the past, I actually hope she does well.  I really have more of a problem with how she has been "guided" in her career than with her.  As long as she earns things like she did this week, I will enjoy watching.  She hit a great bunker shot to close the deal.

I was glad to see Michelle win today, as much as I have been critical of "Team Wie" over the years.
I think the players saw how isolated and weird her existence has been and are making an effort to welcome her on Tour. It's nice to see.
The stat they gave at the end: 16 LPGA tournaments since the last American winner.   shocking

She's certainly got the talent. Here's hoping she's far enough away from her parents that she can realize it.

Michelle Wie wins after eight years

It has been a long time coming but Michelle Wie finally won her first LPGA tournament, fulfilling the promise of a decade with a three-under-par 69 to take the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The 20-year-old American, who played her first LPGA event when she was 12 and threatened to become the biggest attraction in the women's game until repeated flops, raised both arms in the air and then put her hand over her mouth before turning to the gallery and letting out a large sigh of relief.

Wie, whose 13-under-par 275 beat her 23-year-old compatriot Paula Creamer by two strokes, first qualified for a USGA event at 10. She joined the LPGA this season and had begun to suggest to critics that her days as the Hawaiian who tended to stumble when the pressure mounted would soon be over.

The LPGA, battered by economic problems and the forced resignation of its commissioner this summer, needed this victory as much as Wie. "When Michelle Wie is atop the leaderboard it's like night and day and that's star power," the LPGA spokesman, David Higdon, said. "That's all it is. This is somebody people want to follow. You see it in her presence, the way she walks around. The way people talk to her."

Wie began competing against men on smaller circuits when she was 13. She was criticised for not playing against her own age group, her own gender and for turning professional in 2005 before finishing secondary school. At 16 she was poised to become the first woman to qualify for the men's US Open before her putter failed her.

Shortly after that Wie began to lose confidence and went into a long, painful slump that was made worst by a wrist injury that ruined her 2007 season. She has slowly worked her way back, gaining credibility with players and emerging as a leading light in this year's Solheim Cup, going undefeated in four matches.

Wie has finished second twice this season and has two other third-place finishes on the LPGA Tour.

Saw a couple clips this morning and she looked to have one of those days when it was hard to make a mistake.
Helluva shot out of the bunker on the 18th hole.

Regardless, as Sam noted -

She's certainly got the talent. Here's hoping she's far enough away from her parents that she can realize it.

I think its great that she might just finally be realizing her talent and potential.

If and only if she continues to win on the LPGA tour and she continues to hit shots that no other women can dream of hitting then actually I would welcome seeing her go back and try against the men.  I think she has the opportunity to save the LPGA tour and generate interest in golf in general IF she is successful on the LPGA tour AND earns her invitations.  With sponsors on both tours reluctant to continue to shell out cash I think her playing success might just be a boost to fringe mens events too.

I had a little chuckle reading this.  Hard to make a mistake but shooting from the bunker so not impossible I guess. laugh

Anyway, congrats to Wie.  Here's to many more wins in the future.

Well said...really cool that Morgan and Paula and Brittany came out to give her the beer bath...she seems like she's a human being again and a golfer...carry on Wiesy.

Who's the imbecile announcer who interviewed her after the tap in on 18 to seal the victory? What kind of questions are these:

"Michelle, why here, why now?"    shocking

Could the LPGA have gotten a bigger gift than this? If ever they needed a new (old) face to promote this is it.
