I have had a decent couple of years.  I went from 19.1 down to 14.7 in 2008.  So far in 2009 I have gone from 14.7 down to 8.9 with the last revision.

It's interesting that 50% of the people answering the question are 9 handicaps, or less. That's a pretty strong group of people. Of course, if you're on a site like this, you're probably really an avid player.
I'm in the 7 range, but if i played a longer course, I'd be 8 or 9.

I squeaked in to the first category with 4.7.

This year has been a bit of a roller coaster with some driver issues, new putter and some dreadful weather to boot. Last year, I was under 3... Cry

Minor update...

Briefly got to 6.6 this year, before finishing at 7.2.  Started experimenting with wedges, which probably kept me from getting any lower, or even keeping it at that level.

Should know better.  wink

Wow, so this site's members are diametrically opposite of the world wide averages?

As noted above, trends would idicate the pendulum would swing towards the better golfer (for the most part) as belonging to an online golf site. I'm not saying it's a hard set rule, just a general observation.

Not speaking for everyone here, but I am diametrically opposite of world averages in everything but golf. I clank and scrape it around the course with the worst of them sometimes.

I achieved a long time goal this year of making it to scratch and my official USGA handicap says 0.0.  I think I'm going to frame my handicap card  laugh

I don't expect it to stay there forever, and I can't always play to it (I got beat by a 5 in our match play tournament championship after an unlucky bounce off a sprinkler head in front of the green sent the ball flying into a water hazard BEHIND the green... still can't believe that one), but I had enough low rounds on my home course and a couple on tough courses this year to pull it off.  My game is getting better, in particular my putting which I think was greatly aided by my Spider centershaft putter.  For some reason I feel like I can make everything with that thing... and as a result, I made more than usual.

First post here.....hi guys!!  I was a member of the Canadian PGA for ten years (CPGA = can't play golf anymore) so I never had a handicap until I left the association in 2005.  I am sitting at a 1.8 index right now and it is only going up from there.   Roll Eyes

wow... guess I don't belong here... I shot a 115 on a simulator.. with a 12 ft gimmie and 2 putt max...lol...

most of you have a goal to be a scratch player .... I wanna get out of the triple digits...

My first round was a 72 on a nine hole course. laugh

Last round was a 81 on an 18 hole course....thanks to a water hazard when my ball ended up just short of the green. tickedoff

It will come for you.  Just keep feeding the addiction.

I play off 11. I didn't play at all for many years, so when I started again 2 years ago, I was in the low 20s and happy to break 90 on a good day.

I moved back to where I'm originally from almost 2 years ago, bought a membership in 08 and played over 100 rounds. Went from 18ish to a solid 15.

This year, I played just as much and tried to focus my practice routines a little better. I took some lessons with our teaching pro and got down to 10.7 at my best. I had 7 or 8 rounds in the 70s and set a PB of 75. The course here goes 35/36-71, so 75 is 4 over, but still good imho.

Playing to a 0 right now. I used to be good when I played ha ha. Trying to get back on that horse. Anybody else notice that once you get married and get a job that your handicap goes up?

Dropping 11 shots in 10 months is quite an accomplishment.  Well done!

Thanks, though I must confess that getting laid off gave me the time to really work at it.  I was making progress prior to that but at a slower rate.  After never getting below 34, I had gone from 34 to 24 in about 18 months.
