Okay - I will humble myself in front of everyone 215/220 carry 5 iron @ 150 All I can say is that I am on top of the world when I nut one and it rolls out @ 250. Not to thread jack, but I was watching Tigers win of his third in a row Amateur title on the Golf Channel the other day. 320 yards, old Tity head, steel shaft. The kid he was playing with (TM original Burner) @ 260 Johhny Miller did the commentary and even he was laughing at the crazy distance. rob ps - I shot 85 on Thursday, so there - and no - it wasn't from the ladies tees. note - edit for spelling not distance

(I'm a 14 handicap hacker) You know for 8 and down the yardages are not outrageous, I've hit a 140 9 iron although that is usually an 8 and I hit my gap 100 and always find the young buck who is 1 or 2 clubs longer than me. But it's as the clubs gets longer where it is really impressive with the pros; whereas I worry about finding the perfect club for a less than perfect swing they pull the club and know it's nailed.

GD - if you think about it, I will bet those gaps are at about half speed on the higher irons. I have to think that if he decides to step on any one of those, the distance would increase dramatically. rob

Tiger's vs mine:
Driver: 285 yards (of carry) - similar, from 270-330 3 Wd: 265 yards (of carry) - 250-260 2 Iron: 245 yards - 19* 5 wood - 230-235 3 Iron: 230 yards - 24* 7 wood - 215-220 4 Iron: 220 yards - N/A 5 Iron: 208 yards - 202 6 Iron: 190 yards - 190 7 Iron: 172 yards - 176 8 Iron: 158 yards - 162 9 Iron: 142 yards - 148 PW: 128 yards - 135 AW:120 SW: 106 yards - 105 LW(60°): 92 yards - yeah, right???
Now if I could only be even 1/10th as consistent as he is....

Rob - the set I had last year had a 55* SW that I can pretty get up in the air over most anything. The new set I just built includes a 60* LW, but the jury isn't even close to a verdict if I can actually hit the damn thing. My first "custom" set (very loosely applied here) had S flex shafts at 1" over standard lengths. In my mid-twenties, my SS was probably 15-18mph faster than it is now, and I could carry my 5i 225+ pretty consistently off the tee - my 8i was good for 185 yards, and my PW was about 162. However, as weak as those shafts were for my SS at the time...... one 5i might be dead straight, then the next 15 yards left, and the next 30 yards right.

Move over Tigah' - we got a playuh on our hands over here - Tiger - 8 Iron: 158 yards - 162 Chuck - 8 iron: 8i was good for 185 yards, Tiger - 5 iron: 5 Iron: 208 yards - 202 Chuck - 5i 225+ pretty consistently off the tee Best part about Chucks post is that it is not internet fantasy - he bangs it a country mile. That said I would be biting a towel if I had to bet who could hit it the furthest with money on the line. rob

I can match all these distances+...but not necessary to a target or at least the target I'm aiming at

We are talking about 220 yard 7 irons, 180 yard piching wedges and don't ask about the driving I saw these two putting today on 385 yard par fours. i usually stand clear when they are driving. badbo

TIGER'S CLUBS: Driver: 285 yards (of carry)....I've seen Tiger carry his drives over 300 regularly in stagnant conditions at the Tour Championship??? 3 Wd: 265 yards (of carry) 2 Iron: 245 yards 3 Iron: 230 yards 4 Iron: 220 yards 5 Iron: 208 yards 6 Iron: 190 yards 7 Iron: 172 yards 8 Iron: 158 yards 9 Iron: 142 yards Pitching Wedge: 128 yards......And he plays off a 50* PW still, I think? Sand Wedge: 106 yards Lob Wedge (60°): 92 yards Hey, Tiger's only 20 yards longer off 2 degrees weaker irons than I am.

Yeah, geez, Tiger is so weak, as weak as his 70% GIR stat and average score of 68.
I can't even fathom what it would be like to AVERAGE 68 on PGA Tour setups.

I'm surprised that there is such a huge jump around his 6 iron in distance... -Lucky7

Yeah, I definetly have seen him hit PW 150ish on flat lies and such.
Hell I've seen him hit 9iron on 200+ yd par 3's that were slightly downhill.

Yep, that's correct. That's probably with his normal smooth swing. As everyone knows that he can step up and nuke his driver to at least 320+ carry or hit his full lob wedge 5 yards when he needs to. He's one of the best ever in controlling his distances.

I saw him do a clinic on the golf channel once where they jokingly bet him he couldn't hit a camera tower 300+ yards down the range - he missed it by maybe 6 feet and was a little high

Most of the clubs, I am not too far off (for the distances I try to hit with the clubs). I will pull an 8 iron for 150 and most of the time, I will make it, occationally going short or long. My 4 iron is between 190 and 210, depending on the day, but definatly not consistant. Normally I will use my 4 iron on a short par 4 or as a lay-up to a good yardage.
As for driver and 3 wood, his carry is my distance when I catch them perfect.
Heck, yesterday I was on a 277 yard par 4 and hit my 4 iron and was about 65 yards out, but also hit a driver (plenty of time as nobody was close to being behind us) and it was only 25 yards closer to the hole. What's that about? I have three other clubs between my 4 iron and my driver...
Tiger does have a few clubs that I won't ever touch (unless it's just for fun), a 2 iron and a lob wedge. I actually would like to get a 2 iron to play with, since I was hitting my 3 iron pretty good (took it out of the bag when I got my 2 and 3 hybrids though).

I really don't think people should be afraid of a lob wedge. I don't really know what I would do without mine.

I really don't think people should be afraid of a lob wedge. I don't really know what I would do without mine. I had one in my bag and had issues hitting it correctly at the time. That was about 2 years ago. I may be able to hit it now and maybe it would have saved me out of the sand the other night. Bunker-to-bunker, bunker-back-to-previous-bunker, didn't get out of that bunker and then bunker-to-bunker, pick up ball and walk away in disgust... I need to practice getting out of the sand...

I am roughly the same as tiger from 8 iron down, but he is way longer than me with his long irons. I have seen him hit 6 iron from 220, and a high 2-iron from 270... so I don't think those distances are accurate - the driver carry distance must be his 1/2 swing.
Driver: 285 yards (of carry) - 280ish 3 Wd: 265 yards (of carry) - 255ish - TEE 13* 2 Iron: 245 yards - 235 - TEE 5wd 3 Iron: 230 yards - 215 4 Iron: 220 yards - 205 5 Iron: 208 yards - 195 6 Iron: 190 yards - 183 7 Iron: 172 yards - 168 8 Iron: 158 yards - 158 9 Iron: 142 yards - 145 Pitching Wedge: 128 yards - 130 Sand Wedge: 106 yards - 110 (54*) Lob Wedge (60°): 92 yards - 85 (60*)
