While a bunch of people on here are posting their somewhat-similar ranges to Tiger (which I think is them on their out of control swinging way too hard, catch-it pure 1 in 5 shots) ... We just saw Tiger hit the Tourney winning shot at Bridgestone with an 8-iron. He carried it 181 and pulled it back to the hole with touch.

So while these distances posted are actually Tigers natural, relaxed swing. He can physically hit it much further. I doubt he stresses as much as some of these people even on his 181 8-iron.

Good point for a first post! I claim "Tiger Like" distances, but have a few that can vouch for me here... Similar situation to playing with some one of my good friends. He tells me always how far he hits it and when I go out to play with him he gets nowhere near his "claimed" distances. Words go only so far till someone calls you out and you have to backup your mouth

Way to dig through the boneyard for this thread...  Tongue

I definitely don't have Tiger like distances.  I am lucky to hit my 3 iron 150 yards.  Alright, I won't lie, I hit it 153 once, but that was with the wind behind me.  I would much rather shoot his numbers, rather than hit it his distances.  That is what matters to me the most.

Back when this thread was started (2007) he built his set off a 50* pitching wedge.  Even that doesn't capture the story though.  His golf ball is the softest on tour.  He gives up distance to have more spin around the greens.  Evidence last Sunday, 180 yard 8 iron that spun back to the hole.  Other guys were having trouble holding that green with their SW.

There are several guys who can hit the ball Tiger distances or farther on this board without resorting to a crazy overswing.  Tiger is not a freak of nature in his ability to hit the ball far.  He is a freak of nature in his ability to perform under the most stressful of situations.  My normal swing speed that I play with (75-85%) is as fast or faster than Tigers.  There quite a few on here how swing much faster than me.  Tiger is not a god.
